“Se-Kyung wants you to treat her. Take care of Wang Se-Kyung for me.”
Seongmin, who had arrived at work early, complained to Chaewon as if he had found the right person, then widened his eyes.
“What, me?”
“You know I’m fully booked these days. Please, do me this favor.”
“No, that woman is kind of strange. She wouldn’t leave even when I told her to, just kept talking about what she wanted, and even gave me a pack of soju!”
“Probably felt bad coming empty-handed.”
“That’s just nonsense.”
“I’m going in. Have a good day!”
Leaving an agitated Seongmin behind, Chaewon entered the room, sat down, and turned on her computer.
Feeling unsettled as she waited, she picked up a chocolate bar from her desk.
“Don’t think about it, Kim Chaewon. Just stop thinking about it.”
She scolded herself in a stern tone, trying to focus on eating the chocolate bar, but she couldn’t easily dismiss the events of yesterday from her mind.
They had kissed for a considerable amount of time, whether it was 5 or 10 minutes, she couldn’t be sure.
Initially startled by his sudden kiss, she had melted into his gentle movements and found herself placing her hand on his shoulder.
With intensified breathing, they kissed for a definitely not short time, leaning against the sofa.
They were only brought back to reality by the sudden vibration of Heeju’s phone. If it hadn’t rung, it was uncertain where or even if they would have stopped, as their breaths were clearly getting hotter.
Chaewon, staring into space with a serious expression, was startled by the chocolate bar touching her lips and straightened her hunched shoulders.
“Get a grip, Kim Chaewon. Yesterday was just a strong gust of wind. A gust that can happen once in a lifetime.”
Chaewon bit harshly into the chocolate bar that had erotically touched her lips earlier.
As the sweetness filled her mouth, she thought about how she had felt the same taste yesterday and her eating slowed.
“Ah… I’ve lost it.”
Chaewon put down the chocolate bar and clutched her hair with both hands, crying out in despair.
She had easily rejected any confessions and temptations before, but her heart kept fluttering for Choi Yugun.
Every time she met him, she suffered from insomnia, her entire focus drawn to him.
“Heeju is lying there, and what am I doing… Pull yourself together, Kim Chaewon.”
After agonizing for a while, Chaewon suddenly lifted her head.
“I just won’t see him, right? Yeah… Let’s not see each other for a while.”
Deciding to get her thoughts in order by avoiding him, she thought it was surely just a momentary impulse for him too.
As she nodded, thinking it’s better for them to take time apart, her phone chimed with a message.
[Gangnam Rainbow 9 o’clock]“Ah… the picture.”
She remembered she had to take pictures with him.
The condition of meeting and taking a photo every day, she had momentarily forgotten.
So, for at least a month, they must inevitably face each other.
“This is driving me crazy.”
Frustrated, Chaewon leaned her forehead on the desk, then noticed a business card in her absent gaze.
[EM Entertainment Executive Secretary Ahn Jeonghyun]She stared at his name with a listless expression and then straightened up.
“…Secretary Ahn?”
Suddenly his name seemed to sparkle.
Rona checked the photo text messages on her phone with a face full of anticipation.
Her smile gradually faded as she flipped through the photos.
“A women’s-only goshiwon (boarding house)?”
Looking at them in disbelief, Rona flipped to the next photo.
The photos provided by the detective agency were all too decent, showing her alone.
Not a single photo of her talking to a male clerk at the mart, nothing to latch onto.
Moreover, the photos were all elegant and pretty.
“…Really this clean?”
Who doesn’t have some dirt to be found?
Thinking this was unbelievable, Rona immediately called the detective agency boss.
“Is this all?”
Rona, thinking to herself that this couldn’t be right, immediately called the detective agency boss.
“Is this all?”
“Yes, there was nothing much.”
Rona, growing serious, bit her nails.
She had hoped to find something, anything, to pin the blame on Heeju for the divorce and tell Jaemin.
Despite her radically changed style, her life alone was too monotonous.
Rona, biting her lip and then releasing it, sighed deeply.
“Keep following her for a few more days, just in case.”
After receiving an affirmative response, Rona hung up the phone.
She looked through the photos again, wondering if they had missed something, and grew irritated looking at each one of pretty Heeju’s pictures.
“Ha, did they even photoshop these or what? How can all of them turn out so well? What’s with this Kim Heeju!”
The photos made her feel even more upset.
How could changing glasses, applying makeup, changing hairstyles, and wearing fashionable clothes make such a difference?
And yet, it was still Kim Heeju.
The thought that even if she got divorced and lived alone, her newfound glamorous appearance might attract a lot of attention made her feel uneasy.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
