Feeling guilty for choosing her home to quickly get it over with, she had noticed moments of unusual tension when facing Yu-Gun.
Jaemin was startled to see Rona in his office.
“Ro, Rona, when did you get here?”
“Around the time you two were happily drinking coffee together?”
“Ah…”
Jaemin awkwardly fumbled for words, then offered a clumsy smile.
“Did you see?”
“Yes. I saw you ignoring my call too.”
Jaemin, licking his lips, quickly approached and took Rona’s hand.
“Rona, that’s not it.”
“So, are you definitely going to stamp the divorce papers this week?”
“Yes. Heeju has finally agreed to think it over properly this week.”
Rona, filled with rising anger, shook off Jaemin’s hand.
“You always referred to her as ‘she’, but why are you suddenly calling her by name now?”
“Well, Heeju is Heeju, isn’t she?”
“Be honest. You never planned to divorce me, right? You’re just keeping me as the other woman while living a double life?”
“No, that’s not true.”
“Then why were you with Kim Heeju today and not answering my call!”
“How can I answer your call in front of my wife? We’re still legally married!”
“Are you really saying this to me right now?”
Her voice growing louder, Jaemin looked around nervously.
“You’re being too sensitive. Think about the baby, calm down, okay? I’m trying so hard to get this divorce. Getting angry like this isn’t going to solve anything.”
“It’s because of you! You make me angry! You’re getting me pregnant and then not considering my feelings? Not hurrying up with the divorce, drinking coffee, laughing with Kim Heeju, not answering my calls. Running away, hiding – what is all this!”
She tried touching his hands and arms, hugging him, and soothing him with a gentle tone, but Chaewon rejected all these gestures and pushed Jaemin away.
“Rona.”
“I don’t need this, let go!”
“Just calm down, okay?”
“I told you to let go!”
In the struggle, Rona’s long nails scratched his face, leaving a mark that quickly turned red and stung sharply. Jaemin’s emotions peaked, and he looked at her with fierce eyes.
“Rona, don’t you even consider my position, huh? I’m not divorced yet, and technically, I’ve committed adultery.”
“What, what are you saying?”
“Hiding my affair from my wife is natural. Should I have openly answered your call? Made it obvious? What good would that do for the divorce! Right? If you keep making things hard like this, I might just stay with Heeju.”
Rona, shocked at his words, could only open and close her mouth in disbelief. This was not the always gentle Jaemin she knew. He just said she’s the other woman and should keep quiet, threatening to stay with Heeju if she upsets him.
Tears finally welled up in Rona’s eyes, unable to believe what she just heard.
“How could you…”
“That’s why you shouldn’t bother me. You’ve been getting upset over nothing lately, and it’s really stressful!”
Jaemin, venting his frustrations, felt relieved at first but then noticed the significant tears rolling down Rona’s cheeks. Though he felt a sudden rush of guilt, he believed he hadn’t said anything wrong. He had been exhausted from always trying to appease her.
“Ah!”
Rona, not actually in pain, grabbed her belly as if feeling discomfort. She wanted to test his love again since it seemed he had forgotten about the baby.
“Ouch, my stomach.”
Jaemin’s calm eyes instantly widened in alarm.
“What’s wrong, Rona?”
“Ah, my stomach hurts.”
“What? Hold on, just breathe, Rona, breathe.”
As he frantically pulled out his phone, Rona felt relieved on one hand and angry on the other. She felt like nothing more than an incubator for his child unless it was at risk.
“Is this 119?”
Rona, now panicking, didn’t stop Jaemin’s frenzied call. She couldn’t back down now, no matter the situation. She had to get married and create a healthy family for the baby. Resolved, she continued to pretend her stomach pain was worse.
Chaewon quickly pulled out a tissue and handed it to Yu-Gun. They were sitting at the dining table, taking pictures when their arms collided, spilling the drink on his shirt.
“Are you okay?”
“It’s fine. I’ll just change. Don’t worry.”
Yu-Gun casually wiped off the wet spot, seemingly unbothered. Luckily, they had already taken several shots for the first picture, so they only needed to change clothes and take the second picture.
“I’ll quickly change my top and come back.”
Entering a room, Chaewon picked a T-shirt to change into. Sensing the faint scent of the beverage on her hand, she muttered, “Ah, I should have brought him a wet wipe. It must be uncomfortable to wear new clothes over the sticky spot.”
Fetching a wet wipe from a drawer, she hurried back to the living room.
“Here, Mr. Yu-Gun.”
She stopped abruptly on her way to him. Yu-Gun, in the process of changing shirts, revealed his upper body, which caught her eye. She had guessed from his clothes that he was well-exercised, but the sight of his sharply defined abs and firm chest exceeded her imagination.
Chaewon, flustered and stuttering, quickly turned around.
“I came to give you a wet wipe.”
“I’ve already wiped it off with water. I used a towel too.”
“Oh, I see.”
Chaewon, with a dazed expression, stared into space, waiting for him to finish dressing. Hearing movement, she turned around, thinking he was dressed, but stepped back as the still shirtless Yu-Gun approached her.
“Why are you…”
She retreated, leaning back against the dining table with her arms as Yu-Gun continued to approach without hesitation.
“What’s the matter?”
Yu-Gun, almost embracing her, looked directly into Chaewon’s shaky eyes.
“The clothes are on the table.”
“Oh.”
Chaewon’s arms trembled against the table, with Yu-Gun remaining close to her.
His dark eyes slowly shifted, landing again on Chaewon’s lips.
“But did you put something on your lips?”
Caught in his breath, Chaewon couldn’t move.
“I didn’t put anything on. Nothing at all.”
“Then why are they so red? It makes me curious.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
