“Hey, Yura.”
When Jaein answered the phone, Seongjoon slightly lowered his head and went outside.
Through the mobile phone, Yura’s voice full of concern flowed.
― Jaein, did you leave work early because you were sick? Are you okay?
“Yeah, I went to the hospital, and I’m much better now.”
― Really? That’s a relief.
“But how did you know?”
― It’s lunchtime, so I tried contacting Gyumin. I was frustrated because I couldn’t reach you. You said you lost your phone on the day of your business trip?
Ah… When I turned on my phone in the morning, there were missed calls and text messages from Yura.
But as soon as I got to work, I was pushed to leave early, met Seongjoon right away, and went to the hospital. I completely forgot to let her know.

“Sorry, I forgot to contact you in the morning. You contacted me a lot; is something wrong?”
― Did you catch on? Jaein, this sister has a major announcement to make.
Suddenly, Yura’s voice became lively.
At the same time, Jaein was engulfed in a bad premonition.
“You’re not, are you?”
Yura spoke with a voice full of happiness.
― I decided to date Jihoon oppa. It’s been 5 days already.
Oh my gosh!
The ominous premonition was spot on.
“Well, 5 days? Jihoon oppa?”

Jaein was so surprised that her mouth wouldn’t close.
Yura said in a somewhat serious tone.
― Jaein, this sister has decided to become Princess Pyeongang. I’m going to raise our Jihoon oppa as cool as a full moon.
“Why are you raising a grown man of thirty-five years old! What’s the point if your parents find out?”
― I tried to match Mom and Dad’s standards all this time. I told them I didn’t like the idea of introducing next week.
“When they find out later, it’s going to be a big mess…
― I endured it, considering it. He’s perfect for my taste, even considering the appearance, to the extent that I’m willing to put up with the trouble. Compared to the men I’ve met so far, Jihoon oppa’s appearance is like a direct trip to the fish market.
“Looks aren’t everything. You have to see the inner self.”
Even after saying that, Jaein felt embarrassed.
It’s getting annoying. He even said that Cha Dohyuk looks good only.

― It’s not just about looks. His speech and actions are rough, but there’s a subtle charm of politeness and consideration.
“Aren’t there many people who are openly polite and considerate?”
― It’s because I feel a connection with Jihoon oppa’s soul. The more we talk, the more I think Jihoon oppa and I won’t have a dull moment for the rest of our lives. And how well he cooks.
“Oh, your ideal type is a man who cooks well. But isn’t he unemployed?”
― That’s because our Jihoon oppa hasn’t met his time yet.
“At the end of every sentence, ‘our Jihoon oppa.’ You’ve really fallen for him, haven’t you?”
― Yes. I’m going to see him again tomorrow.
Yura, who always had an abundance of leisure in a superior position whenever she dated, was irritating.
Jaein wanted to check for herself who Seong Jihoon, who made Yura infatuated, really was.
“That guy named Jihoon, I need to see him in person to feel reassured. So, show him to me next time.”

― Of course, you, my best friend, have to be the first to see him. You’d be surprised, wouldn’t you?
“Yeah. I’m curious to tears about who he is.”
“Hey, Gyumin’s voice wasn’t great. What happened?”
At the sudden question, Jaein suddenly recalled the incident when Gyumin hugged her tightly in the meeting room this morning.
I should have rejected him right away when he confessed, even if I felt sorry.
For some reason, her heart felt heavy as if she had unnecessarily triggered something.
“What happened…”
“Really? I thought Gyumin might have confessed to you.”
“How did you know that?”
Jaein’s eyes widened as if they were about to pop out.
“Exactly. Last time, Gyumin was asking this and that about you, and I had a feeling he might do something like that. I forgot about it because I was busy worrying about Jihoon oppa when he asked you that last time.”

“I did hear his confession… but I was planning to reject him.”
“Why? Because of Manager Cha?”
“Oh, no!”
“You seem flustered. By any chance, did you go on a business trip alone with Manager Cha?”
To Yura’s sharp question, Jaein felt like her heart was being pierced.
Choi Yura, you’re my friend, but I might need to prepare a doormat for you.
“Yeah…”
“Wow! Don’t tell me there was only one room in that big hotel, or something like that?”
“H-How did you know?”
Jaein was taken aback.

“Oh, I knew it. Seriously, in movies or novels, whenever a man and a woman go somewhere, there’s always only one room. Even after half a century, why is the repertoire so consistent?”
“That’s true. Every time I saw something like that, I thought it was ridiculous, but it actually happened.”
“Leaving that aside, did you and Manager Cha confess your feelings and even kiss in the same room?”
“…!”
Jaein was so shocked that she couldn’t breathe.
Seeing her not responding, Yura laughed as if she knew everything.
“So, you spent a clichéd night together, right?”
“Come to think of it, yes.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
