Blackening the Affectionate Male Lead (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 6
Whitney made an excuse about wanting to read a book and barely managed to leave the Ducal Mansion. As she rode out in the Duke’s carriage, her mother, seemingly concerned about the attention she might draw, assigned her a knight.
The problem was that this knight showed not the slightest respect for his mistress. She deliberately ignored his blatantly insolent gaze.
Her position in the Ducal Mansion was no better than that of a servant girl, so it was obvious how the knight regarded her.
‘To assign me such a knight… It’s as if someone actually wants a scandal to break out.’
Whitney stared out the window. Stirring up trouble with the knight in this cramped space wouldn’t lead to anything beneficial for her.
Therefore, it would be better to reach her destination quickly and get into a place where others could see them.
The carriage stopped on Poltori Street in the city center, and the door opened. The knight stepped down naturally and reached out his hand to escort Whitney.
She strongly disliked the idea of taking his hand and tried to step down from the carriage without it, but the knight, his pride wounded, forcibly grabbed her hand.
“To refuse an escort? A lady should always accept a gentleman’s help. Honestly, if not me, then who else would escort you?”
Heh heh.
At the knight’s vile chuckle, Whitney felt deeply humiliated. She tried to pull her hand away, but his coarse touch on her knuckles made her whole body stiffen.
“Ugh!”
Whitney turned her head upon feeling the knight’s hand suddenly jerk away from hers. He lay sprawled on the ground, groaning in pain.
“Don’t block the way up front—move aside.”
“…Ah! I’m sorry.”
Realizing she had been standing right in front of the bookstore, Whitney quickly stepped to the side. Her hand, the one the knight had grabbed, throbbed, so she wrapped it with her other hand.
A man wearing a cloak that concealed his face tried to enter the bookstore as if nothing had happened.
“Hey! If you knock someone over, shouldn’t you at least apologize!”
At the knight’s shout, the man’s footsteps stopped abruptly. Without offering a reply, he simply reached for the bookstore door to go inside.
“Are you deaf?! Do you really think you can harm a knight in the Duke’s service and walk away unscathed?!”
“Stop it. If you cause a commotion in the city, Mother will surely punish you.”
“And do you think I’ll be the one punished? Won’t they blame Princess Orleans herself for starting such a disturbance?”
Whitney let out a deep sigh at the knight’s mocking tone.
“Have you no shame? Making this kind of scene right in front of everyone—do you really intend to disgrace House of Duke Orleans?”
The knight’s eyes widened furiously, as if ready to draw his sword at any moment.
‘Is he really going to challenge that man to a duel?’
Whitney was uneasy. If this continued, she risked having her outings banned entirely—which would be disastrous. Moreover, though it was only a fleeting moment, she had clearly seen the cloaked man trip the knight deliberately.
The man criticized the knight in a flat, even tone.
“Blame your own weak legs. For a knight to have such feeble legs, it seems the knights of Duke Orleans are nothing special after all.”
“Are you insulting a knight’s honor?! Show your face like a man and declare your name instead of hiding like a coward!”
The knight, seemingly deaf to reason, flushed red with anger. His heavy, furious breathing made Whitney feel embarrassed on his behalf.
‘Just who appointed such a man as a knight?’
The thought of others witnessing this and gossiping gave her a headache. It seemed quicker to calm the cloaked man than to reason with the knight. So she grabbed the man’s arm.
“I’m sorry. You seem more reasonable. You wanted to go into the bookstore, right? Let’s go in.”
“Your Highness. Are you really taking the side of someone who just insulted our House instead of your own knight?! I’ll report everything to the Duchess.”
She hadn’t expected the knight to address her as “Princess.” Whitney gave him a scornful glance.
Turning to face the knight one last time, she issued a final warning.
“Sir. If you raise your voice even once more, I swear I’ll strip you of your knighthood—no matter what it costs me.”
She knew it wouldn’t truly affect him, but with onlookers present, he couldn’t do anything. At her words, the knight glared furiously.
“You’ll regret this! You’ll surely regret treating me this way!”
He ground his teeth as he spoke.
“Go back to the Ducal Mansion first. I’ll return on my own.”
Frowning at her throbbing temples, Whitney entered the bookstore with the man.
“I’m sorry for dragging you into this mess. And thank you for helping me.”
“I didn’t help you. You were just in the way, so I moved you.”
The man passed by Whitney and walked toward the back of the bookstore. Suddenly, a scent carried by the breeze drifted into her nose, and her head turned instinctively toward him.
‘Surely not… It can’t be.’
What would His Highness the Prince possibly be doing in a shabby old bookstore?
Shaking her head, she picked up a random book and headed to the counter. Many wrapped books were already piled there. Glancing toward the door, she saw the knight had likely already returned to the Ducal Mansion.
‘That’s actually fortunate. It’ll make things a little easier.’

After confirming the Ducal Mansion’s carriage had left, she took her wrapped book and stepped out of the bookstore.
[This is the timeline separator]She arrived at a small Lussia Salon tucked away in an alley and entered cautiously. There wasn’t even a staff member to greet customers.
“We’re not open for business!”
As the clear chime of a bell rang and she stepped inside, a man burst out shouting—then froze, eyes wide.
“…I came to have a dress tailored, but it seems I’ve arrived at a bad time.”
“No, no! Not at all! Please, come this way.”
Monsieur Leberom of the salon approached Whitney, his eyes sparkling.
“What kind of dress would you like? Just say the word.”
“I don’t have much money, but I have good fabric, and I’d like to remake a dress with it.”
The owner nodded. He fetched a sheet of paper and, asking her to wait a moment, began sketching the dress as she described it.
“Is this the design you wanted?”
Whitney gave a light nod.
“I’ll send the dress here tomorrow. I’ll give you ample time, but please do your best. This dress could be a great opportunity—for both of us. I’d prefer long sleeves, though…”
“Leave it to me.”
Though she’d come here precisely because funds were tight, her intuition told her this was a good choice. Whitney nodded lightly and asked him,
“Could you call a carriage for me?”
“Of course! Right away.”
Whitney took a public carriage back to the Ducal Mansion. She didn’t want to go home, but she had no choice.
The carriage quickly arrived and stopped before the mansion. She pulled a coin from her pocket, paid the driver, and stared blankly at the estate.
‘I’ve only just healed—and now I’ll get hurt again.’
Whitney brushed her arm lightly and stepped inside. A maid who normally paid her no mind at all suddenly cried out loudly.
“Madam! She’s back!”
Footsteps hurried down from the floor above, and her stepmother stood before her.
For an instant, Whitney saw her stepmother’s hand raised high. Reacting swiftly, Whitney bent her body as if to brush dust off her skirt.
“Ah!”
With a loud thud, her stepmother lay sprawled on the floor.
“…Are you alright?”
Whitney covered her mouth in feigned shock and turned to the maid.
“You! You!”
“Why aren’t you helping her up? Mother hates it when my hands touch her, you know.”
“M-Madam! Are you alright?!”
“Ah! My back—my back!”
At her stepmother’s anguished cry, even Melissa, who had been in the room, came rushing out. Everyone in the mansion scrambled frantically, carefully carrying the stepmother back to her room.
“Mother! What happened?!”
Melissa glared at Whitney. Whitney put on an utterly bewildered expression and said,
“I don’t know either. I bent down because I thought there was dirt on my skirt—and then I heard a thud. When I looked, Mother had already fallen.”
“You there! Explain what happened!”
Melissa snapped at the maid, who bowed her head and described the scene.
“…When Madam heard Miss had returned, she came rushing down to punish her—but Miss bent over just then, so Madam swung her arm into empty air, lost her balance, and fell.”
“What?!”
Melissa’s eyes widened furiously, glaring at Whitney as if ready to devour her. Whitney kept her head bowed deeply, her face on the verge of tears, and said softly,
“I truly didn’t know. I had no idea Mother was going to slap me. If I had, I would’ve quietly accepted it—I’ve always taken my punishments without complaint.”
“…Hah! Just you wait. If anything happens to Mother, I won’t let you off easily.”
“Shouldn’t you be calling a physician instead of wasting time being angry with me? If she’s wrenched her back, she must be in terrible pain.”
“What are you all standing around for?! Go find the finest physician on the continent—now!”
“Yes, right away!”
At Melissa’s command, everyone scattered quickly.
“Sister, I know you don’t want to see me, so I’ll go stay in the attic for now.”
Leaving the bustling crowd behind, Whitney calmly ascended to the attic.

“How dare you!”
“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?
“I will never accept that.”
“I will never let you return to him.”
“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”
“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”
“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!
At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.
Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.
The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.
Synopsis:
Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?
Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?
Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?
The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.
The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.
Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~

This is the first time I’ve seen a good aunt help the heroine; I think this novel is different.
