Whitney’s heart was beating rapidly. It was because she immediately recognized who the person holding her in his arms was.

“What brings you here, brother?”

Even she felt her breath catch at Chester’s sharp voice. She couldn’t see his expression while being held in his arms, but at least it wouldn’t be the look he had shown her recently. His firm arms wrapped around her waist.

“I’d like to ask the same. Wasn’t this the time you should be training? There’s no reason for you to appear here at this hour.”

“Why wouldn’t there be? I came running right after training ended because I missed the wicked fiancée.”

“The training ended already……”

Karl sneered at his words that could easily come off as arrogant. It must have been that guy he took in who ratted him out. No matter how skilled, it was impossible to bolt out in the middle of training. Unless it was something unavoidable.

Karl hadn’t been waiting for Whitney without even recognizing him.

“I just happened to run into her while taking a walk, is there a need to be so on edge? As if I’d do something to my brother’s fiancée.”

“Of course, I don’t think brother would touch my fiancée’s body intending to do something beastly without honor. But the palace is always a place where rumors spread easily, isn’t it? Chester’s low voice rang out like a warning. Karl was silent for a moment before starting to laugh. It was as if he was mocking, saying his words weren’t scary at all.

“Even so, who could stop me? Among those in the separate palace, how many do you think are on your side? One stray you picked up, and one princess the family is desperate to kill. One mother of yours who’s better off dead. Just three? Even the maid who was guarding the princess’s side until just now pretended not to see my actions and left her seat.”

He kept talking without shame in his actions. He didn’t care about the killing intent leaking from Chester’s body. Karl probably knew. That here, Chester couldn’t harm him.

The more things he had to protect, the more cautious his actions had to be. Not knowing where the sparks might fly, it was Chester who was anxious.
