Whitney was left speechless by the unexpected words.

‘You’re saying I’ve harbored feelings for His Highness the Prince?’

It felt as if she’d been struck on the head. She’d never once considered it, so his question left her unable to answer immediately.

Whitney simply wanted to save him from dying unjustly. She didn’t want him hurt any further, and seeing their situations as similar, she’d believed they could help each other.

“Lady Orleans, it seems you’re wearing many masks. The you I saw back then truly appeared to be in love.”

Only then did Whitney realize why he’d said that. He was clearly teasing her—he must have overheard what she’d said to Gnosis earlier.

“At that time, I didn’t want Gnosis to know about the relationship between Your Highness and me. I had no excuse to give him.”

“Then let me ask again—what about you should I trust so that I may believe your certainty?”

“I just hope Your Highness stays unharmed.”

“Do you pity me?”

It wasn’t pity. Yet no suitable word came to mind to explain it. She couldn’t even call it guilt, for nothing had happened between them that would warrant such a feeling from her.
