“Stay for dinner. The cook is excellent, my aunt has taken great care of that.”

“That’s enough, get up now. I’m looking forward to seeing how well you perform at your debutante ball. You must be of help.”

“Don’t worry.”

Whitney nodded. Cecilia glanced at the bodyguard with displeasure and stood up.

“Whitney, we’ll see you at the banquet. I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’ll prepare diligently not to disappoint you, sister.”

Melissa turned and followed her mother out. Whitney sighed deeply and leaned back in her chair.

‘It’s going to be exhausting from now on.’

Her mother would be on edge now, and it remained to be seen how she would react. Melissa didn’t seem like she would come to the banquet unprepared.

Having entrusted a task to the information broker, Whitney expected to receive the desired information soon.

Whitney had a light dinner and returned to her room, feeling overwhelmed and hardly able to eat.

Sonia entered the room, knocking softly.

“I’ve brought tea and a digestif to freshen up your mouth.”

“Ah… Thank you.”

“If there’s anything else you need, just let me know.”

Whitney nodded in appreciation. Sonia was very perceptive.

She observed people well, immediately providing what they needed or quickly understanding their desires. It made sense why her aunt valued Sonia so much. Having her by her side showed how important this task was to her.

‘I’ll need to visit the Rubenius residence garden to harvest the Bellonia later.’

But was it really okay?

Whitney waited for a response from Cheston but doubted she would get one. If she had to ask for his help, he would also have to fulfill her wishes. She knew every favor had its price.

She hoped his situation was desperate enough. Whitney wanted to save him, and to do that, she had to get closer to him.

The method wasn’t easy, but regularly exchanging letters might help them learn about each other.

Of course, that would only be if he responded in the first place.

Whitney looked at the darkening sky. Waiting for a letter that wouldn’t come wouldn’t change anything. She crawled into bed and closed her eyes.

Cheston fiddled with the letter.

He wanted to gather the information she needed before responding. It seemed like a smoother way to deal.

“It seems difficult to obtain Bellonia. However, the king has been staying close to Elenia lately, so she hasn’t been summoned by the queen.”

“…That’s only temporary.”

Aron didn’t respond, implicitly agreeing. Even if his father tried to protect his mother from the queen, she would find more vicious ways to torment her. Cheston wasn’t safe either.

“I’ll send a reply in the morning. Have you found out about the woman on the flyer?”

“Yes, we’re moving quickly, and we should have information by tomorrow.”

“Good.”

This would allow him to do more than just ask for help. The look in Whitney’s eyes seemed to suggest she expected something from him.

“We can’t wait until the debutante ball; mother is too frail.”

“Elenia will hold on. I’ll keep watching.”

“Aron. We have a visitor.”

“…Your Highness, I’ll stay with you.”

Cheston shook his head. If the queen had sent the visitor, Aron intervening might put him in danger too. Someone had to be there to protect his mother if something happened to him.

Aron reluctantly left, and Cheston prepared to face whatever the queen had planned.
He drew his sword, waiting for the visitor. Soon, sounds from several sources were heard, and he looked towards the window. The door opened, and assassins burst in rapidly.

Cheston managed to fend off their swords without getting seriously hurt.

“Die, you filthy bloodline!”

He narrowly escaped death, parrying the assassin’s sword. As a Sword Master, their attacks were easy for him. However, the fact that the queen sent more skilled assassins this time indicated her growing venom.

“Did Her Majesty the Queen order you to kill me?”

“Ugh!”

“Don’t you know? You can’t kill me. Just stop and go back.”

The assassins didn’t halt. They attacked relentlessly, their eyes desperate, as if nothing frightened them even in the face of death.

Cheston moved quickly to drain their energy.

“If we return like this, your mother will be in danger too! You don’t think we only sent assassins here, do you?”

That statement ignited a murderous intent in Cheston’s blue eyes. His gaze, filled with madness, met the assassins’ eyes. Even though they hid their faces behind masks and tried to mask their fear with other emotions, it seemed like they wouldn’t stop unless they were dead.

“I intended to let you live, but that seems impossible now.”

Cheston swiftly wielded his sword, cutting off their breath. One by one, the assassins fell to the ground under his blade.

The room was again filled with the stench of blood. The queen knew that no one could kill Cheston, yet she kept sending assassins to torment him.

Cheston inflicted wounds on his intact body with his sword. This would satisfy the queen, showing her the state she desired, and hopefully give him some respite.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
