“Eun Su. What if I have to go to the US?”
At twenty-six, Eun Su was a job seeker juggling short-term part-time jobs and freelancing while looking for a place to settle as a full-time employee.
In contrast, Ju Han had joined the business consulting company founded by his maternal grandfather just a few months before graduation. It was a fairly large firm with its headquarters in Boston, USA.
Eun Su knew that Ju Han’s mother, the CEO there, had wanted him to come and learn the ropes from the start, but Ju Han had stubbornly insisted on staying at the Korean office.
Ju Han had never once mentioned those circumstances to Eun Su, so he didn’t know that Eun Su was aware of them either—but she knew everything.
“I’d go. Everyone else is dying to work overseas.”
“Then you?”
“I like it here. I’ve never even thought about living abroad.”
“Then what about us?”

“Long-distance wouldn’t be so bad, right?”
“If you shut up, we’ll figure something out somehow.”

Someone’s call snapped Eun Su back to reality. The moment she turned around, she clenched her molars.

Team Leader Gye, the very “that guy” from the saying “I can see everyone else but not him,” approached with a smile.
“Wow, it’s been a while.”
“Hello.”
“I heard the rumors. You’re working at Vida now?”
When Eun Su didn’t particularly respond, Team Leader Gye smirked.
“So that’s why you treated me like that back then? You were dead set on transferring there and made me get you an interview.”

“Well, sure, you probably needed to look good to the place you’d soon be moving to rather than one that was about to take off. Still, I felt a bit hurt, you know? There’s such a thing as leaving on good terms—did you really have to screw everything up like that?”
Eun Su lifted only the corners of her lips into something resembling a smile. One side rose subtly higher.
“Is leaving on good terms something you can just decide to take all by yourself?”
Team Leader Gye’s expression twisted slightly. He cleared his throat awkwardly, scratched his cheek, then abruptly said,
“Give me a business card. I saw you handing them out earlier.”
Since when were you watching? Eun Su’s eyes narrowed in discomfort.
“Who knows? I might write even one nice line about you.”
It was too big a media outlet—the interior magazine company she had quit—to simply ignore the sleaziness. And it was obvious he wasn’t asking for her card out of genuine professional interest.
After a moment’s hesitation, Eun Su smiled brightly and held out a card.
As expected, Team Leader Gye took it with a look that said “of course”—then froze.
“What’s this? This isn’t Seon Eun Su-ssi’s card?”
“It’s our CEO’s card. I ran out of mine, so I prepared a better one instead. Well then.”
Flashing a smile, Eun Su quickly turned away. The ceremony had just ended, and the newlyweds’ exit music was playing.
While everyone cheered noisily, Eun Su slipped out of the venue.
“……Ugh, so annoying.”
She hadn’t even planned to ask him to write a favorable article—she didn’t care—but the fact that she couldn’t lose her temper in case he wrote something bad pissed her off.
He was petty enough to do exactly that, and since it was someone else’s wedding, she figured she’d dodged well enough, yet not being able to properly clash with him still left a bad taste.
Eun Su took the bus straight home. After dozing for about thirty minutes and getting off, while walking the rest of the way, she suddenly felt a twinge of regret.
“Since I already made the effort to go out, maybe I should’ve stopped somewhere?”
Slowing her steps, Eun Su gazed into the distance. The breeze carrying the fresh green air somewhere between late spring and early summer tickled her anew.
She had put effort into dressing up and doing her makeup and hair for once—yet the only thought after finishing her business was to head straight home. She had become too immersed in her homebody office worker life…
Then a familiar voice came from behind her.
“What are you doing standing in the middle of the road?”
Eun Su spun around with a start.
Ju Han, dressed in baggy hoodie and shorts that screamed “local resident,” stood crookedly with a suspicious look in his eyes. He held a convenience store bag in one hand.
Eun Su clicked her tongue.
“I didn’t want to run into anyone from work on my one day off in the week.”
“Same here. Who told you to move so close to the office a long time ago?”
He wasn’t wrong. Last year, when her lease ended, she found a place within walking distance of Vida to save on commuting time and cost—and ended up becoming neighbors with Ju Han.
After slowly looking over Eun Su, whose vibe was quite different from usual, Ju Han casually remarked,
“Looks like you just came from a wedding.”
Feeling oddly sulky, Eun Su answered without changing her expression.
“No, a blind date.”
Ju Han’s eyes shifted slightly. He glanced at her straight, white legs under the flowing skirt, then immediately looked away.
“Coming home alone at this awkward hour means it was obviously a failed blind date.”
Eun Su flinched but brazened it out to the end.
“Yeah. He was so terrible I gave him your number.”
“Why the hell would my number come up there? Day drinking?”
“It failed, so what day drinking.”
Shrugging, Eun Su waved her hand dismissively and passed by Ju Han. He watched her retreating back with bewildered eyes.
A blind date—knowing Eun Su’s personality, she’d never willingly do something like that, and even if she did, she wouldn’t dress up that much for a first meeting.
Still, a tiny bit of unease remained, and Ju Han fidgeted with his phone in his pocket.
Don’t worry about it. What business is it of mine? If it’s a lie, fine; if it’s true, whatever.
“…It was definitely a failure, right?”
[This is the timeline separator]The next day, Eun Su arrived at work, sat down, turned on her laptop, and immediately switched to work mode.
Mid-century modern, Scandinavian and beyond to American and Western European styles, unique textures, color palettes—she pulled out several keywords, analyzed trends, and started thinking about new project ideas.
She always worked hard, but the reason she was extra fired up today was the certain stimulation she’d received yesterday.
Back when she handed out cards from the interior magazine, people usually said things like “Wow, you work there?”—but saying she worked at Vida now got vague reactions, which bothered her.
She also hadn’t been able to neatly brush off whatever Team Leader Gye’s threat-sarcasm was.
If Vida were already thriving, she could’ve shot back that plenty of places would write good articles even without him.
“Anyway, I’m going to make this place bigger.”
Eun Su had always been interested in things with form—like architecture, furniture, and interiors. She once dreamed of becoming a furniture designer but quickly gave up for financial and practical reasons.
Then she joined the interior magazine, and not long after starting, her first solo assignment was an interview with CEO Kim Gyeong Hoon.
She remembered studying vintage furniture for days, determined to know at least one more thing before meeting him. He had kindly answered every question as if appreciating her effort, making the interview smooth and enjoyable.
“Vintage refers to the year the grapes used for wine were harvested. Like well-aged wine, it also means something old yet valuable. It’s something that doesn’t become outdated or boring with time but remains charming—and even means the best. Those are the things I love.”
CEO Kim Gyeong Hoon’s words stuck with her deeply, sparking a serious interest in vintage furniture. The more she learned, the more fascinating it became.
Back then, her only ambition was to earn lots of money someday and buy this and that. She never dreamed it would become her career.
While also searching how other vintage furniture shops were doing these days, Eun Su frowned.

The moment she entered the website, the design was indescribably awful. Seeing the page crammed with celebrities who had shopped there and sponsorship lists felt like staring at a horribly made PPT—her chest tightened.
“Objectively, ours is dozens of times better.”
The blog and Instagram that the stylish and diligent Jae Rim had poured effort into for Vida were honestly jaw-dropping. They had tons of followers and visitors. The only problem was that it wasn’t translating into sales.

“What? What’s wrong?”
― There’s a customer on the first floor. They’re looking for you. Hurry!
“A customer?”
Jae Rim, voice brimming with excitement, lowered it to add,
― It’s Choi Yoon Bin, Choi Yoon Bin!
“What? Yoon Bin oppa? Right now?”
― Manager, you really know Choi Yoon Bin-ssi? No way!
Eun Su shot up from her seat. She told the wide-eyed Seon Kyung she’d be right back and headed to the first-floor showroom.
She spotted the side profile of a man admiring the fabric armchairs lined up near the entrance. Slightly slim yet well-proportioned, an unusually small face—he had that unmistakable celebrity aura at first glance.
“Oppa.”
At Eun Su’s call, Yoon Bin turned his head and broke into a bright smile.
“It’s been ages since I last saw your face. How’ve you been?”
Eun Su quickly walked over, stood in front of Yoon Bin, and smiled back.
“It really has been forever. You must be busy—how did you come without even texting?”
“How else? To see you.”
Yoon Bin’s tone was as gentle as his nicely curved eyes.
“If I had more time, I would’ve contacted you earlier to grab a meal, but my schedule suddenly got packed, so I just dropped by. Good thing you were here.”
“I’m basically always here unless it’s my day off.”
Yoon Bin had debuted at seventeen as a member of the idol group Crescent and, even now at thirty, remained a top star who kept renewing his prime.
These days he was more famous as an actor. He finished his military service this January and jumped straight into filming a drama, so he and Eun Su had only managed one meal right after his discharge and occasional texts since.
“Come upstairs and have a cup of tea at least. I’ll make you coffee.”
“No, the coffee’s on me… Ah, here he comes.”
Just then the door opened and Yoon Bin’s manager walked in, carrying a tray with several takeaway coffees and bags full of cookies and such.
“You must’ve had a hard time carrying all that alone. Thank you.”
Yoon Bin took about half the coffees from the manager with an apologetic look. Then he turned toward Jae Rim, who was peeking over curiously.
“I asked this staff member how many people work here. Here, take these.”
“Oh wow, thank you so much.”
Jae Rim accepted the coffee from Yoon Bin with overwhelming gratitude.
“The others…”
“I’ll pass theirs to the people in the basement workshop.”
Jae Rim grabbed coffees for Ju Han and So Min as well. Eun Su tried to take some from the manager, but he smiled and said it was fine.
“You didn’t have to buy all this just because you stopped by casually. Let’s go upstairs first. You have time to sit and chat for a bit, right?”
“Of course.”
Eun Su, Yoon Bin, and the manager headed up to the second-floor office. Jae Rim watched their retreating backs a little longer before darting down to the basement like lightning.
“CEO!”
