“There was no reason to follow. In fact, I was grateful he left first. Otherwise, there might have come a day when I threw something like a resignation letter in someone’s face for the first time in my life.”
Everyone burst out laughing.
“Manager Oh may seem quiet but really packs a punch sometimes.”
As Jaelim said, Seonkyeong appeared quiet yet effectively managed her duties and expressed her opinions clearly in her soft-spoken manner. Even after two years, she maintained a certain mysterious distance from everyone but was never missing in any gathering.
“But then… Ah!”
Eunsu, about to say something, accidentally nudged a beer glass in front of her. Juhan, with incredible reflexes, reached out and caught the glass, preventing it from shattering on the floor but unable to stop the liquid from splashing.
“Ah, it’s all wet!”
“My hand is wetter. Are you drunk? If you are, go home.”
“It’s not because I’m drunk, it was a mistake. You’re being so harsh.”
As Eunsu complained, looking at her damp blouse and stained pants, Jaelim quickly handed her a napkin. Juhan, shaking his hands a couple of times, said,

“Anyway, it’s because of you my hand got wet, and if it wasn’t for me, your clothes would be even wetter. No thanks or sorry?”
“I was going to, but I won’t now since you killed the mood.”
“Who says thank you and sorry based on their mood?”
“Then just know I won’t.”
Eunsu glanced at Juhan and stood up.
“I’m going to the restroom.”
As Eunsu left the table, Juhan’s phone rang.
“I’ll take this call and be right back.”
He stood up and walked away quickly while on the phone. Eunsu, walking ahead, turned around and suddenly grabbed the back of Juhan’s shirt. Though their conversation was inaudible, it seemed like Eunsu was asking Juhan to take off his shirt, and he was responding with “Let go, woman.”
Watching their receding figures, Seonkyeong said seriously,

“There really can be just friends between a man and a woman. I’ve never had a male friend I could call a close friend, so seeing the Manager and Eunsu is quite fascinating.”
Jaelim nodded.
“Honestly, I always ended up dating female friends I got along well with, so I believed in the idea that men and women can’t just be friends. But seeing the Manager and Eunsu for two years without anything happening makes me think maybe it’s possible?”
Jaelim skeptically stroked his chin, and following suit, Somin remarked with a tilt of her head.
“I don’t know about other things, being simple-minded… but the way they look at each other with disdain sometimes seems really genuine.”
Seonkyeong and Jaelim laughed in agreement, and Somin added,
“Anyway, I think it’s good that they’re friends. From my experience working at various places, it’s exhausting when the superiors genuinely hate each other, and even more tiring if they are in a relationship.”
“Oh, I agree with that,” Jaelim said enthusiastically.
“I briefly worked at a company where my mentor was dating someone from the same office. They made it obvious when things were good and even more so when they fought. It made me feel so uncomfortable. Ugh, I hated it.”
Seonkyeong nodded in agreement with a slight smile.
“In many ways, our Manager and Director seem just about perfect.”

The next day was a day off. After a good sleep, Eunsu showered, had a quick breakfast, and cleaned her house, which was just the right size for living alone. With 11 years of experience living independently since the age of eighteen, she was quite efficient at housework.
After cleaning, Eunsu seriously rummaged through her wardrobe.
She had a wedding to attend at 2 PM. It was the wedding of a senior she had been close with at the magazine company.
The exit from the company had been quite dramatic, so she felt a bit awkward about seeing people from there, but it had been 2 years already. Besides, the senior had moved on to a new job a few months ago, so there wouldn’t be many from the previous company.
‘As long as I don’t see Manager Gye…’
Eunsu decided on a dress she usually reserved for guest appearances.
The venue was quite crowded. As Eunsu had guessed, there were more unfamiliar faces than those from her former company.
After congratulating the senior in the bridal waiting room and leaving, Eunsu ran into some familiar faces from the PR agency where she had briefly freelanced.
“Wow, Eunsu, it’s been so long!”
“Really long time no see, Manager. How have you been?”

After a pleasant exchange of greetings, the manager playfully asked,
“Any news about your own wedding, not just attending others’?”
“Already? I don’t even have a boyfriend yet. It’s still far away.”
And maybe never. Eunsu added to herself, smiling.
“By the way, where are you working now?”
Eunsu promptly pulled out a business card from her bag.
“I’m at Bida.”
“Oh, really? But that place…”
The manager trailed off, perhaps about to say something like, “Didn’t that place become uncertain after the director changed?” Eunsu, guessing as much, just smiled as if she knew nothing.
“If you ever need vintage furniture, feel free to contact me. We also do collaborations for studio props, photoshoots, etc.”

After wrapping up the conversation and greeting a few more people, Eunsu entered the venue where the ceremony was taking place.
The ceremony proceeded smoothly in the familiar sequence of lighting the unity candle, the groom’s entrance, the bride’s entrance, and so on. Eunsu quietly crossed her arms, watching.
Marriage.
There was a time in her life when she dreamily hoped for such a thing in her own future, a bliss only available at that age.
As she grew to know more, that sweet dream turned into a bittersweet reality.
She briefly reminisced about that time, years ago.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
