The trio of apprentice knights… unexpectedly did well.

‘…They are of my caliber after all.’

I thought they were just guys with high pride, but that wasn’t the case. All three of them were quite skilled.

‘So it’s pride based on ability, I see.’

The trio exited with a very triumphant attitude, glancing at Rodri.

They seemed confident that their skills were superior to Rodri’s.

‘Hmm, we’ll have to see about that.’

The trio were all wolf beastmen like Rodri, and of similar age to him. That’s why they seemed to feel a sense of competition with him.

‘Well, competition isn’t necessarily a bad thing.’

But they shouldn’t express it in a nasty direction, like tormenting others.

I only hope that this incident will be a lesson to them as well.

‘The next turn is… Jade. That’s quick.’

I’ve heard that outstanding guys like Jade are usually placed at the end, but has the rule changed from this month?

Jade came out to the center of the foggy arena and stood face to face with the knight commander. Skill evaluation is through a duel with the commander, but I heard that Grayan occasionally steps in as well.

I glanced at Grayan. From his quiet demeanor, he seemed to have no intention of stepping in this time.

‘Hmm, I wonder what Grayan’s assessment of Jade and Rodri’s skills will be.’

Jade’s duel with the knight commander began. As always, Jade’s movements were agile yet strong, and most importantly, perfect.

His swordsmanship was too orthodox for a wandering swordsmen.

Grayan’s eyes sparkled with a sharp light as he watched Jade.

‘…As expected.’

He must have been doubting something as well. About Jade’s background.

‘I knew this would happen, but it was only a matter of time before Jade’s true identity was exposed.’

Anyway, Jade scored high and passed the evaluation. He looked over here and smiled confidently, as if appealing to April.

The rabbit scratching its ear with its hind leg raised its foreleg and gave a sharp applause. …The feeling of doing it as a formality was strong.

In any case, the skill evaluation competition went smoothly, and the last turn was… surprisingly, Rodri.

‘Why did they assign Rodri to the last turn?’

It was strange. I heard that the last turn was always the vice commander unless something special had happened…

‘Could it be, Rodri’s skills are better than the vice commander’s… No, that’s… that’s too incredible! How long has he learned swordsmanship? Although Rodri is a beastman with an innate ability to fight well…!’

‘Mastering the fundamentals of swordsmanship in a short period is impossible…’

Without realizing it, I was gripping my hands tightly, tense. The rabbit sitting on my knee also changed from a slightly bored attitude to staring intently at the foggy arena with serious eyes.

Soon, Rodri revealed himself in the center of the arena. He seemed much more tense than before. …Will he be okay.

‘Why on earth did the person who made the roster place Rodri in the last order?’

I realized I didn’t know who made the roster. Could it be Grayan? I sneaked a glance at him, and at that moment, as if feeling my gaze, Grayan turned towards me.

His mouth was adorned with his usual leisurely and gentle smile.

“Curious about who made the roster?”

“HHow did you know?”

Is he a ghost? Did my thoughts show on my face? I blinked quickly in surprise, and Grayan chuckled before explaining.

“I always pay attention to the lady.”

“…”

…No, what’s with that maxlevel flirting… Is he aiming for that? Or is he unaware? Either way, it’s scary. He’s really too dangerous a wolf!

“The roster was arranged by the knight commander. He has been supervising and scoring all the knights, including the apprentice knights, for a week before the skill evaluation competition, and the order of the competition is determined by those scores.”

“……?”

Grayan kindly explained, but rather than thinking, ‘Ah, I see,’ my doubt deepened.
Grading? What are the criteria for that? If it’s based on martial arts skills… shouldn’t Jade’s order be at the end?

“This time, you must be curious about the grading criteria?”

“…Yes.”

At this point, it feels like my brain is being hacked. Noticing my strange expression, Grayan chuckled softly and continued to explain.

“The criteria for grading are not just one, but several. It’s quite complicated. Of course, we evaluate martial arts skills, but also… attitude, character, loyalty, and potential for growth.”

“Growth potential…?”

This seems just like the evaluation system for new employees, doesn’t it? The Duke of Salisbury’s human resources management was much more systematic and thorough than I thought!

‘Oh, I just remembered, weren’t the three troublemakers who harassed Rodri first in order?’

Those guys were pretty good at martial arts, too. But being first in line… must mean that they were heavily docked points in other areas.

‘And Jade, too.’

As I looked at Grayan with sparkling eyes, he explained again, as if he could clearly see into my head.

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
