Thanks to sleeping deeply, thankfully her body felt light.

Eloise, blinking her eyes open, pushed down the cozy blanket that had covered her up to her chin and got out of bed. Then, a small tray and a damp cloth placed by her bedside caught her eye.

It was quite strange to feel touched upon waking in an unfamiliar city far from home.

Yet, if this dazed feeling meant what she thought it did, she certainly didn’t mind it.

Though she seemed to have had a peculiar dream all night, Eloise decided to focus only on the gratitude she felt now and the peace brought by the faint chirping of birds.

After all, amid her hectic daily life, what she had always longed for was precisely this kind of moment.

It was then that she thought she ought to finally send the letter she’d postponed for quite some time due to her cowardly desire to escape and lingering guilt.

After all, she had unexpectedly been granted a day off.

However, last evening she had chosen sleep over dinner, and as a result, her stomach was now utterly empty.

Unable to ignore the inner voice practically clamoring for food, Eloise headed unsteadily toward the stairs—or at least, that was her intention.

From the square opening at the bottom of the stairs leading down from the second floor, a steaming potage and a teapot with a cup suddenly emerged, clattering as they were set down on the floor.

Soon after, a maid’s face appeared. She, too, looked surprised, her eyes wide open.

“Oh? You’re already awake.”

“Ah, yes. I’m really hungry….”
