“I suppose I’ll have to take care of you with love.”

As he smiled with utter satisfaction at that thought, Eloise suddenly raised her head.

When Ansel met her gaze without hesitation, her sapphire-like eyes sparkled with nervousness. Yet Eloise did not flinch; instead, she opened her mouth—finally seeming resolved.

“…I have something to say.”

“In the middle of dinner?”

It was a languid question. Nevertheless, as if willing to listen, he slowly rested his chin in his hand.

His gaze was far too intense, and Eloise felt a sudden urge to look back down at her plate.

In truth, while drying her hair, she had steeled herself to make her intentions clear—but then, distracted by the sumptuous dishes, she’d completely lost herself in the meal. Now, abruptly, she felt embarrassed by her own behavior.

She couldn’t afford to lose her composure any further if she wanted her words to carry weight.

A gentle strength settled into her clear blue eyes.

“I wasn’t really hungry.”

“Oh?”

“I only ate because I was flustered by your offer. You went to such trouble to prepare this… and cooking is hard, isn’t it? Especially dishes this delicious…”

Her lips, now prettily flushed, hurriedly offered excuses—but despite her words, the way she’d eagerly been eating made her face look far too happy.

Moreover, she still held tightly onto the silver cutlery, as if she never intended to set it down—as if it were the most treasured thing in the world.
