Hot water streamed down on Taehan’s head in the shower booth.
Lost in deep thought under the relentless water, he was haunted by the image of Yeongwoo’s tear-streaked, flushed face as she firmly rejected him.
“I won’t date you, President.”
Her lips had been tightly pressed together, looking almost wounded as she spoke decisively.
The reason Sungwon had suggested was wrong.
But more than that, the thought of Yeongwoo’s near-tearful expression was driving him mad.
“Damn it.”
His clenched fist brought out prominent veins. Tears freely mixed with the water cascading down his furrowed brow.
Deciding quickly, he stepped out of the shower booth.
Draping a nightgown over himself, he checked the time: 9 PM.

Feeling it was too early to sleep, Taehan picked up his phone and, after a moment’s hesitation, dialed a number.
“Hello?”
As expected, the call connected quickly. Taehan asked in a low voice, “Are you asleep?”
Yeongwoo, seemingly startled on the other end, paused before responding, “No, I haven’t gone to bed yet.”
“I’m coming to your room.”
“Right now?”
Taehan felt he couldn’t wait to see her.
“Let’s talk face to face.”
Yeongwoo had rushed into her hotel room, engulfed in turmoil.
“I’ll date you. I’ll be your boyfriend.”

His words had left her bewildered and enraged, but with time, she couldn’t help but notice the seriousness in Taehan’s expression.
“Yeongwoo is the first for me.”
What did he mean by that?
Lost in thought, she didn’t realize it was already 9 PM.
Yeongwoo sighed and decided to record the day’s events in her maternity notebook before going to bed early.
As she sat down and opened the notebook, her eyes were drawn to the recent ultrasound picture of her baby.
It was still just a tiny dot, but growing increasingly precious to her every day.
The space for the baby’s nickname in the notebook remained blank.
Since discovering the baby’s existence, she hadn’t had time to think of a nickname, caught up in practical concerns.
But now, she wanted to give her child a name.

Rrrr.
Just as she was about to jot down her thoughts, her phone rang.
Expecting it to be her mother, Yeongwoo was surprised to see Taehan’s name as the caller.
Normally, she would have answered immediately, but this time was different.
After a brief internal conflict, she decided to slide the call icon and answered, “Hello?”
“Are you asleep?”
Taehan always had a clear purpose when he called Yeongwoo.
Therefore, he used to directly give her the orders he needed, and Yeongwoo was used to it.
But the unexpected question made her take a deep breath.
“No, I haven’t gone to bed yet.”

“I’m coming to your room.”
As usual, he announced his intention.
Unable to say ‘don’t come’ and hesitating, the call ended, leaving Yeongwoo frozen in shock.
Realizing their rooms weren’t far apart, she quickly got up.
She tidied the disheveled room and stood in front of the mirror.
After the shower, Yeongwoo untangled her wet, tousled hair and gently patted her swollen eyelids, a result of her tears in the shower. Startled by the doorbell, she jumped, her shoulders tensing at the sound.
Just before opening the door, she glanced around the room one last time and noticed the maternity notebook lying solitary on the desk.
“Ah, right.”
Quickly, she grabbed the notebook and hurriedly slid it under her work journal.
After ensuring nothing else needed hiding, she finally opened the door.
“Were you really not asleep?”

Taehan stood at the door with a furrowed brow, as if displeased for being made to wait.
“Yes, I was just watching TV.”
“Then why are your eyes swollen? Have you been crying?”
Yeongwoo flinched and touched her eyelids.
“They usually swell in the evening.”
“May I come in?”
Taehan, who had bluntly announced his visit, now oddly sought permission to enter. His standards always differed from others.
Without surprise, Yeongwoo gestured him in, and he stepped into the room confidently.
“It smells like you in here.”
He casually strolled around the room, hands clasped behind his back. His uncharacteristic sentimentality only added to her confusion.

“What do you want to talk about?”
Yeongwoo knew that the longer she delayed, the more disadvantaged she would become, especially with her heart pounding just from seeing Taehan in his relaxed attire.
“Let’s sit down and talk.”
“I’d rather stand.”
Standing by the entrance, waiting for Taehan’s words, Yeongwoo looked resolute.
Realizing her state, Taehan finally understood he hadn’t fully grasped her feelings.
“Do you dislike my presence here?”
Yeongwoo stiffened her expression and replied, “It’s not about liking or disliking. It’s unusual for a male president to visit a female employee’s room in the middle of the night.”
“Are we just that? A male president and a female employee?”
“What do you mean?”

“Do you see me only as your boss, and yourself as just an employee?”
Yeongwoo, lost for words, didn’t respond.
Feeling a rising heat within him, Taehan continued, “We slept together.”
“President…”
“Who in the world sleeps together in such a situation? Especially a president with his employee. It could make headlines.”
The more he spoke, the more his body burned with an inexplicable fire.
“If you think this situation is unusual, you could have just said no to my visit. You always speak your mind, so wh
“So what you’re saying is, you couldn’t refuse because I’m the president? Even though you didn’t want to?”
Yeongwoo didn’t respond, but her silence seemed to convey agreement.
Taehan finally understood the difference in their positions. Why hadn’t he considered this from the beginning? He realized he had been self-centered in his approach to Yeongwoo.
And with this realization, even the night they spent together came under scrutiny.

Had Yeongwoo agreed to spend the night with him reluctantly just because he was the president? Did that cherished night for him merely remain an abnormal event for her?
“Yeongwoo.”
If her inability to refuse was because of his position as president, then that night they spent together was nothing more than a nightmare to be forgotten and discarded.
“Don’t worry, it won’t be a long talk. Come and sit.”
If that was the case, they needed to have this conversation even more.
Finally, Yeongwoo moved her stiff body and sat opposite him on the bed.
Taehan leaned back in the desk chair, sharply focusing his eyes on her. Now that he knew her true feelings, he realized he couldn’t hold onto her.
“Alright, resign.”
Yeongwoo’s eyes widened, the disbelief clearly visible in her brown irises.
“I’ll process your resignation as soon as we return to Seoul. But make sure you properly hand over your duties.”

Yeongwoo, feeling incredulous, moistened her dry lips and asked with narrowed eyes, “Are you serious?”
“Do I look like a trash who would joke in such a situation?”
His terse reply made Yeongwoo clench her fists resting on her lap. She felt her heart crumbling, even though resignation was what she had sincerely wanted. The idea of never seeing him again once she resigned filled her with a sudden darkness.
Taehan, pressing his temples, decided, “No. It’s better to contact HR directly for a quick replacement.”
After finishing his words, Taehan experienced a tightness in his chest for the first time in his life.
The thought of her leaving caused a deep sense of loss, but he didn’t show it. Having decided to let her go, he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.
“I’ll write down the contact details, and you can call them first thing in the morning. I’ll instruct Director Kim to give a heads-up…”
Taehan turned to look for a notepad.
But he abruptly stopped mid-sentence. Yeongwoo, who had been lost in thought, also raised her head as the silence stretched.
“What’s this?”

Taehan’s brows furrowed instantly.
Yeongwoo, seeing his gaze, jumped up from the bed and exclaimed, “Don’t touch it!”
The maternity notebook she thought she had hidden well under her work journal had somehow sprung out, the word ‘maternity’ blatantly visible.

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
