On the day of her departure to Jeju, Yeon-woo stopped by the hospital before heading to the airport. Since her flight was in the afternoon, she had time for this errand.
Shortly after, she held a pharmacy bag in her hand.
‘Okay, with this, there shouldn’t be any major problems.’
Anticipating difficulties even for a short trip, she had gotten a prescription for morning sickness medication.
Checking the time, Yeon-woo stepped out onto the main road to catch a limousine to the airport.
There was a distance to the bus stop, but if she hurried, she should make it in time.
Dragging her travel bag, Yeon-woo was briskly walking when she paused at the sound of her ringing phone.
Taking out her phone from her pocket, she saw Taehan’s name on the screen, who she had arranged to meet at the airport.
Remembering their last encounter in Cheonan, she braced herself before answering the call.
“Hello?”

If you’re ready, come down.
“What? What do you mean… are you outside my house?”
Yeah.
Yeon-woo was momentarily speechless.
“I’m actually outside.”
Then, there was silence on the other end of the phone. It seemed he hadn’t expected her to have left home so early.
You’ve already left?
His response came a beat late.
“Not yet, but I had some errands, so I left early. I’m on my way to catch the limousine now.”
Which station?

His voice was serious as he asked.
Yeon-woo, somewhat startled, informed him of her location, and Taehan replied that he would be there in less than five minutes before hanging up.
With the abrupt end to the call, Yeon-woo blinked, still holding her phone to her ear.
She, too, would take about the same time to walk to the stop, but she couldn’t fathom why he suddenly decided to come.
‘Always so unpredictable.’
It was frustrating that he called so casually, assuming she would come down, even though they hadn’t planned to meet.
But despite her annoyance, Yeon-woo’s heart fluttered, knowing how meticulously he planned everything.
However, it wasn’t just excitement.
“I can only struggle like this.”
Having heard him say that recently, she laughed at herself for wanting to misconstrue his kindness as affection.

As she approached the bus stop, she spotted the familiar sedan. The car, too, noticed her and pulled over to the curb.
She hurried over, careful not to obstruct traffic.
“Are you emigrating or what?”
Taehan, stepping out of the driver’s seat, looked at her thigh-high travel bag and snickered.
“It’s the only travel bag I have. And it’s not that big.”
“Give it here.”
He reached out, lifting her bag effortlessly.
“Guess you are emigrating.”
He continued to tease as he placed the bag in the trunk. The bag was quite heavy with all the things she had packed.
Embarrassed, Yeon-woo silently followed him to the passenger seat.

Once the seat belt was fastened, the car started moving.
It was awkward. This was the first time she was in a car dr
But even as she thought this, Yeon-woo found herself unable to counter his words.
What was she still hoping for?
“After the research conference, I’ll contact HR.”
Yeon-woo said this, trying to steady her wavering self.
However, Taehan remained silent. Steering the wheel quietly, he eventually stopped at a signal and pulled something out from below.
“Don’t drain your energy from the morning, eat this.”
What landed on her lap was a small paper bag.
“What is this?”
“Just some light snacks. I’ve heard that’s how people eat breakfast these days.”

As she opened the bag, it contained soft tofu, yogurt, fruit, and more – all foods that were easy on the digestion. Had he been concerned about her supposed indigestion?
“Why, had breakfast?”
Noticing Yeon-woo just staring at the bag without moving, Taehan turned and asked.
“No, I haven’t eaten…”
Yeon-woo felt odd, unsure whether to accept and eat it or to refuse it.
She didn’t want to accept his kindness so readily.
Rrrr.
Just then, a phone rang in the car. It was Taehan’s.
“Ki Taehan speaking.”
Taehan-ah.

Yeon-woo flinched at the voice flowing through the speaker, recognizing it as Min-hee’s.
Unlike her, Taehan continued steering the wheel and spoke calmly.
“What’s up?”
Yeon-woo wasn’t sure if she should be listening to their conversation but couldn’t help paying attention.
I was wondering if you received the consortium event invitation too. Suddenly, our secretary hands me something strange?
Min-hee’s voice was soft and gentle, contrasting with her interaction with Yeon-woo earlier. With her beautiful face and voice, what man wouldn’t like her? Yeon-woo thought this as she sneaked a glance at Taehan. However, his expression, focused forward, was unreadable.
“Isn’t it the usual invitation we get every year?”
His voice sounded indifferent.
But it’s the first time for the consortium, right? Seems international, didn’t you get one?
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
