An Incomplete Divorce (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 91
The night of the closing ceremony was growing late.
The study, untouched by the noise of the banquet hall in full swing, was steeped in a heavy silence like darkness itself.
As the Marquis remained silent for too long, the reporter grew increasingly uneasy and changed his expression, beginning to issue threats.
“So if you help me out this time, I assure you I’ll never appear before your eyes again—not in front of you, my lord.”
His greed-clouded eyes gleamed dully.
“Nor in front of Miss Blanchet.”
He stressed the final words with deliberate emphasis. A slick, sly grin shimmered across his greasy face.
Gerald was certain that if the man were handed money so easily again, he’d lose it all at the gambling tables and inevitably cause trouble once more within a week—it was as obvious as daylight.
After all, this was the very man who had barged into the hotel; what wouldn’t he dare to do?
“Of course, I could always go see Miss Blanchet myself, but no gentleman wishes to make a lady cry. Surprisingly, I’m rather vulnerable to a lady’s tears. And I’m confident—quite certain—that Miss Blanchet would find my story rather intriguing. If that happened, your relationship—”
Edgar gave a faint chuckle.
He had overlooked the pitfalls of a public romance.
Edgar took a drag from his cigarette and poured whiskey into the thick tumbler sitting before him.
Exhaling a long stream of smoke he’d held in his mouth, he personally filled the reporter’s glass as well.
Seeing the top-shelf liquor brim over, the reporter, ever the drinker, licked his lips appreciatively. The lavish hospitality clearly meant Edgar would be paying up once again.
