Bathed in the slanting sunlight of the setting sun streaming through the large window beside the stairs, the Duchess’s smile seemed almost saintly.

The woman who used to scream and rant was no longer there in Herman’s memory.

The butler stared blankly at her retreating figure before regaining his composure. He hurried to the telegraph office in town to send an urgent telegram to Greathill.

“She’s put the villa up for sale?”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

My wife, no, my ex-wife, started to act beyond my expectations.

I thought she’d live luxuriously in that scenic place, surrounded by men. What could be her intention?

“What should we do?”

“Buy it.”

The aide bowed and quickly left the study.

I closed the documents I was reviewing.

Was she planning to use the money from the villa’s sale to buy a mansion in the capital?

My reason for giving her the Lemont villa was simple: far from the capital yet lively enough to not bore her, a perfect place for her in the pleasure city of Lemont, frequented by nobility.

But now, was she planning to come back to my side, to torment me?

No, that won’t do. Olivia.

I opened the lid of the polished cigar box, cut the end of a cigar, and lit it, my eyes narrowing.

The villa sold for a slightly higher price than market value to a buyer with a generous heart, who agreed to keep the servants under the same conditions. My ex-wife was pleased, calling it good fortune.

Anne and my ex-wife rode the carriage into town. Whatever she did or wherever she went, Anne never asked; she simply kept quiet by her side.

Never before had I seen her so lively; the change was both unsettling and joyful.

In front of the bank, my ex-wife had the carriage stop. She consulted carefully with three banks before ultimately choosing to deal with International Bank.

“Look at this, Anne. It’s a guarantee certificate.”

My ex-wife waved a check with an astronomical sum written on it, laughing like a child.

“We need to pack again.”
As soon as we returned to White Gable, the mistress handed me a brown envelope.

“What’s this?”

“I’m grateful for your help all this time. Please, take it.”

“Lady!”

“I’m going a bit far this time, Anne.”

The mistress’s blue eyes shone clearly, without a trace of regret, as if she were someone never to return.

I was reminded of a memory from a rainy summer day.

A middle-aged man holding a black umbrella, a girl crossing the red rose garden towards the Blanchett manor, the man driven away before he could even enter, throwing a tantrum, and the girl, thin as a twig, collapsing in the rain.

I was ten then, helping my mother clean the floors when I rushed out to hold the girl, panting as I dragged her inside the mansion.

That day, the girl was locked in a dark attic, and for the first time, I was beaten by the lady of the house and spent two days in bed, feverish but worried the little girl might die.

“Take me with you, please, Lady.”

The poor illegitimate child of the noble Blanchett, Elena Blanchett.

“You won’t see your mother often.”

“The lady entrusted you to my care.”

I remembered the mistress, drenched like a soaked bird, pulled from the lake. I was terrified she might disappear like a mirage.

“So let’s go together. Anywhere. Let’s spend all that money and live happily, yes, Lady!”

I clung to the mistress’s delicate wrist, not letting go. Genuine warmth flowed from that small hand. Olivia couldn’t bring herself to push me away.

The next day, unlike when we arrived at Greathill, we both, dressed in simple travel clothes, boarded the carriage and left the villa.

“She’s left White Gable.”

“Destination?”

“She boarded a passenger ship headed to the Kingdom of Britt.”

“Britt.”

Ha, Johann chuckled briefly.

Not the capital, but Britt…

If this was a new strategy to capture my attention, then my wife, no, my ex-wife, was achieving some success.

But why Britt, of all places, where she had no ties?

Irritated in a way different from when we lived under the same roof and she caused trouble, I frowned.

“What should we do?”

“Keep an eye on her.”

“Understood.”

As my aide left, I tried to focus on the documents again but soon found myself walking to the window.

The sky was particularly clear, like Olivia Blanchett’s pale blue eyes.

My wife always had eyes clouded with drugs and alcohol. I only recently realized her eyes were blue.

Of all times to show me those eyes, it had to be at the end.

Johann gazed up at the clear sky, thinking of Olivia’s eyes. At that moment, on the deck of the ship to Britt, Olivia, or rather Han Ji-an, was looking at the same sky.

Finally, she smiled broadly.

Olivia, no, Han Ji-an, was now fleeing. Forever from her husband’s grasp.

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
