Their conversation paused as the waiter served their tea. Once he left, Elaine, eyebrows raised, asked, “I read in the article that you got an enormous alimony and even Lemong’s villa. Entering penniless and leaving a wealthy woman. Oh! I’m just quoting the article, so don’t be offended.”

“I didn’t know it was in the news. I haven’t been following it.”

“Really? Your divorce was such a big issue. They even reported the brand of the bag you carried when you left Greathill. Didn’t you read the papers?”

“Not really interested.”

Olivia smiled faintly. She had been too preoccupied with leaving Johann Leopold’s side.

“And you really didn’t hire a lawyer?”

“Right.”

“So, you just split the assets without any dispute, thanks to your talented husband?”

For Olivia, there was no effort needed for the divorce.

“I had hoped your lawyer could help me.”

“Wouldn’t you benefit from a trial?”

“Judges are men too. Probably have a mistress or two themselves. It’s a given.”

Elaine explained the commonplace affair of wealthy men having mistresses, a display of their wealth in the male-dominated world.

“That’s unfair.”

“Well, we could have a lover if we wanted, as long as we don’t get caught.”

This was a concept Olivia found hard to grasp.

“That’s why women initiating divorce need a skilled lawyer. Or, unless their husband has a fatal fault other than infidelity.”

Elaine repeated her actions with the sugar cubes, seemingly lost in thought.

Lost in the piano melody, Olivia pondered before cautiously breaking the silence.

“What if you make your husband want the divorce?”

Her suggestion caught Elaine stirring her tea aimlessly off guard.

“Him? Want a divorce?”

“Yes.”

Elaine frowned, pondering the idea.
“Are you telling me to get divorced now? Do you understand what you’re suggesting?”

Elaine’s voice rose with agitation.

“Of course, I understand. But you, Elaine, mustn’t agree to a divorce.”

“…”

“You need to hold out until your husband proposes a reasonable alimony. Then he’ll be forced to file for a legal divorce.”

“…”

“Elaine, just show in court how virtuous and merciful a wife you are.”

“What do you mean?”

“Despite his infidelity, declare that you still love your husband and wish to keep your precious family together. Wait for him to return. Impress the judge. The more convincing your act, the more heinous your husband will appear, and the judge will likely grant the divorce with a substantial alimony.”

A clear light sparked in Elaine’s eyes.

“I’m sure I can make him say ‘let’s get divorced.'”

What must her husband have thought each time he stood beside her while she proudly displayed the fake jewelry at parties? The betrayal and shame were unbearable.

Was that necklace the only fake thing?

Probably not. Since the day he came home smelling of unfamiliar perfume, everything he gave might have been a lie, including his affections.

Despicable man.

Try as she might, Elaine couldn’t hold back her tears.

“When I succeed in getting a divorce, let’s have a party.”

Elaine’s lips, which had been clenched to hold back tears, curved into a radiant smile.

Duke Johann Leopold’s day started early as usual.

Even on the weekend, he began his morning in the office, replacing breakfast with a strong cup of coffee.

His expression remained unchanged as he signed documents indifferently. In the afternoon, he would take a ride around the estate on his beloved horse, Alexander.

Later, he’d change into suitable attire for a formal dinner, attending a banquet he was invited to.

His life appeared unchanged from before the divorce. The only difference might be the lack of a companion for social events.

Diane Brook was quite pleased with this. The existence of that contemptible bastard child was insignificant. Olivia Blanchett, less important than dust in the air, left no trace in the noble man’s solid life.

Diane, the former Duchess’s secretary, adjusted her attire before Johann’s office. With a fluttering heart, she knocked and heard his alluring deep voice inviting her in.

Without hesitation, Diane opened the firmly shut door of the office.

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
