Ryan mouthed an expletive at Edgar.

Really doing this, huh?

Ryan’s eyes questioned incredulously.

Regardless.

Edgar signaled the manager with his eyes.

“We’ll seat you over here.”

Now completely ignoring Edgar, Ryan glared at him resentfully and signaled his friends to leave.

“I hope you find solace at the ball tonight, my lady.”

The man raised his hat slightly, smiling charmingly. His eyes brimmed with curiosity about the divorcee.

“No, I couldn’t impose. Please continue with your meal as planned. I should be going now.”

Olivia addressed Edgar. She didn’t want to be a spectacle on their plates, replacing the seafood.

She was also weary of the disdainful gazes from the noblewomen on the terrace.

That fox-like woman, again!

It was a look filled with contempt.

“Let’s go, Ann.”

“Yes, my lady.”

“If our presence is bothering you—”

“No, it does bother me.”

Olivia glanced warily at Edgar and the men trying to keep her there, nodded briefly in farewell, and left the restaurant.

“What about that, my lady?”

Ann pointed to a cluster of food stalls in a corner of Bichen Park. They offered sandwiches, hot dogs, sodas, and coffee.

Olivia and Ann’s first meal after leaving the restaurant ended up being sandwiches and coffee.

Their benchside meal in the park, overlooking the river, turned out to be surprisingly pleasant, making them forget the Mediterranean seafood they had missed.

Munching on a sandwich, Olivia thought of the ball invitation.

It was from that man.

She hadn’t imagined such a young person would be the hotel owner, nor that he would enjoy such distasteful pranks.

She had already decided not to attend the ball, and if he continued to bother her, she could simply change her accommodations. She couldn’t stay at the hotel forever.

Recalling the terrifying moment of her near-death experience still made her heart race. She had lived that life so earnestly, not knowing it would end so abruptly.

For now, she wanted nothing. Free from Johan, maybe it was alright to indulge in this leisure for a while, as a reward for her previous life’s efforts.
Quietly and peacefully.

It would be nice to move to a secluded countryside, far from the social circles.

Olivia decided to keep her mind at ease. There was no rush for anything.

As the wind blew, the lush leaves rustled, creating waves of fresh green.

The beautiful scenery, along with the coffee and bread she swallowed, revived not just her hunger but also her vitality. Now, she felt eager to start exploring in earnest.

“Shall we go now?”

“Yes, my lady.”

The two rose from the bench and began walking towards the distant clock tower, a famous symbol of Lytton, known for the legend that wishes made when the clock hands meet come true.

Olivia and Ann decided to cross the park. As they strolled along the pathway, birds chirped melodiously overhead.

“Do you have a wish you’d like to make?”

Ann asked with innocent curiosity, her eyes slightly widened as she looked at Olivia. Olivia chuckled. She was not oblivious to the fact that it was all superstition and marketing.

“What about you, Ann? Do you have a wish?”

“Yes.”

Ann nodded shyly with a soft smile. She had her own beliefs and maybe her prayers had already been answered. She wished for peace for all her loved ones.

Walking along the quaint path, Ann gazed at the cross of the cathedral facing the clock tower and prayed silently in her heart.

Olivia quietly observed Ann’s profile and then looked up at the sky. The spring sky was a clear, watery blue.

A wish…

Fate had always been harsh to her. Not once did it fulfill her wishes.

Not when her father’s business failed, not when her constantly quarreling mother left home, not even when her father took his own life. There was no divine intervention.

Her life was filled with results matching her relentless efforts. At least, that was something to be grateful for.

Quietly and peacefully.

That was now her life’s pursuit as Olivia.

As they reached the end of the path and delved deeper into the densely wooded park, they found couples whispering sweet nothings under the lazy afternoon sun.

“Oh, my goodness!”

Ann exclaimed.

“Let’s go this way, my lady.”

“That will make us late.”

“It’s only twenty past four. Your wish will still be granted.”

Watching Ann’s flushed cheeks, Olivia laughed heartily. The sound of kisses competing with the chirping of birds filled the air.

To spare Ann from embarrassment, Olivia guided them down a side path. As they moved away from the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, the park quickly returned to tranquility.

Walking along a path lined with bluebells, Olivia suddenly stopped.

Under the shade of a large oak tree, sitting on a bench, was a woman who caught her eye. It was the very same woman she had seen wearing the pink diamond necklace.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
