Despite my grumpy tone, my heart was racing nervously—worried that Jun might find my behavior suspicious.

In the meantime, I pressed the power button on my phone. The text message containing the meeting location with Secretary Yoon instantly disappeared beneath the darkened screen.

At that moment, Jun’s gaze lingered pointedly on my phone before shifting deliberately to my face. He must have found it suspicious after all. My grip on the phone tightened instinctively.

Jun’s eyebrows twitched slightly. Even in that brief instant, my heart pounded violently in my chest. Then Jun suddenly spoke.

“Don’t just believe random texts or lend money so carelessly.”

“…Huh?”

“Voice phishing scams are incredibly sophisticated these days. Be careful.”

Jun gave a soft chuckle, turned around, and started walking ahead.

Thank goodness. It seemed Jun hadn’t noticed anything. He didn’t even know I’d spoken separately with Secretary Yoon. There was no way he could have guessed all this just from the way I’d been staring tensely at my phone.

I’d already memorized the meeting place from Secretary Yoon’s message: a café in the alley beside the back gate, where she’d be waiting around the time the casting auditions wrapped up. I could just tell Jun I had a prior engagement and needed to leave—that excuse should work fine.

Still, it weighed heavily on my mind that I couldn’t stay and take care of you, who’d pushed through all day without a single complaint about your pain. Because of that, your back view, as I watched from behind, felt even more forlorn.

Just then, the sound of Jun’s shoes echoing down the hallway suddenly stopped. He stood a few steps ahead of me, turned around abruptly, and looked back.
