“Ouch.”

A dizzying pain shot through my forehead so intense I wondered if a hole had actually been drilled into it. My closed eyes snapped open.

“Haa. Lee Ha Ru. Do you even know how many times that makes today? Monitors are for looking at, not for head-butting.”

I rubbed my throbbing forehead with my palm and turned around. Jung Eun didn’t even glance my way; she was just quietly slotting documents into colored files, completely focused on her own work.

I didn’t need her to tell me that monitors aren’t meant for crashing into—I already knew that. It was only because I barely slept last night. No matter how wide I forced my eyes open, they kept sliding shut on their own.

Last night I kept tossing and turning, wondering if maybe Jun would finally reply. Maybe he’d say he’d been busy and that’s why the reply was late. I only managed to fall asleep well past 2 a.m., so it wasn’t surprising.

It was just the aftermath of a night spent thinking about Jun and clinging to pointless hope. I knew it was useless. If these feelings were something I could stop just by knowing they were useless, I would’ve stopped long ago.

In the end, there was nothing I could do about greeting a morning still shrouded in the lingering shadows of that futile night.

The pain seeping into my forehead felt so real, yet I was the only one still floundering in unreal emotions.

I didn’t bother saying anything more to Jung Eun. I figured I’d just wait quietly until these feelings settled down. I soothed myself by sipping the now-lukewarm black tea I’d poured into my tumbler earlier.

I picked up the scattered tea bag on the desk to throw it away and noticed it said “decaf black tea.” Sigh—of course I’d pick this one. No wonder it never worked.

“Huh? Ha Ru nunna, there’s a hole in your forehead.”

Hyun Su, who was sitting next to Jung Eun, suddenly jumped up and shoved his face right in front of mine.

“No way. Stop messing around.”

That’s what I said, but the spot I’d bumped really did hurt like hell.
