A message notification rang out. I must have forgotten to set it to manner mode. I hurriedly swiped the screen. A message from Jung Eun was floating at the top of my phone.

[Here, the project photos I mentioned earlier. Send them to our Director Kim too. He should know. 3:03 PM]

The photo of Jun and me that I’d just seen was tucked right below the message in a small square. Even though it was a chatroom only Jung Eun and I could see, I quickly hit save as if someone might spot it, then glanced around. Only after double-checking the silence around me did I feel relieved.

I stared at Jun and myself in the photo, completely entranced.

The moment when our eyes held nothing but each other’s faces, no empty space between. The moment we were frantically searching each other with our gazes.

Just looking at it made my heart tremble gently like this, so maybe this photo had preserved that day’s emotions along with it.

Should I send the photo… I’m torn…….

Maybe to Jun, this would just be an annoying picture that could spark a worthless scandal. Something he might laugh at my effort to find his contact when we’ll probably never see each other again in a month or two anyway.

First love is literally just the first love, nothing more. He might find it ridiculous that I’d dared to hope, especially since he probably vaguely noticed my feelings last time.

Just imagining the temperature difference between how Jun and I would treat this photo made my heart slowly sink underwater. In the end, I’d be the only one floundering in the emotions captured here. The thought made me sad, and because I was sad, I didn’t want to send the photo anymore.

‘Send it to our Director Kim too. He should know.’

Jung Eun’s words that had popped up in the meantime weighed heavily on my chest. Something he should know. That was the verdict passed on this single photo. The verdict Jun would reach probably wouldn’t be much different. Bitterness spread in my mouth.

At that moment, a “new friend” notification appeared in the messenger window. When I pressed the button, a new name appeared at the very top. Two neat characters.

Kim Jun.

It seemed my “old friend” Jun, whom my phone didn’t even remember, had automatically been added to my new friends list.
