I gazed out the office window, resting my chin in my hand. It had been two weeks—two weeks during which it seemed as though only the window beside my desk was perpetually shrouded in dark gray storm clouds, with heavy rain occasionally pouring down.

It suddenly came to mind. From that day until today, those two weeks had felt like an endless tunnel—deep, dark, and overwhelming. Every single moment had become a wound, as I couldn’t even begin to accept the repeated separations as routine.

I told you, trying to reassure you, that two weeks would pass in the blink of an eye—for your sake. You, in turn, said you’d try your best to get used to that sense of time—for my sake. That’s how we cared for each other—though neither of us was truly sure if this really was for each other’s good. Yet, vaguely, we believed it was the best we could do in this situation.

Saying “two weeks will fly by”—today’s me would never have offered such comfort. I couldn’t have brought myself to say those words.

Because two weeks could never truly feel like “just a moment.” The words “two weeks” and “blink of an eye” were never meant to get along in the first place—especially not when those two weeks meant growing farther apart from the person you love.

During that long stretch of two weeks, Jun never once complained to me. In fact, whenever I—having been the one who’d tried to reassure you—let slip over the phone just how much I missed you, to the point of tears, it was always you who gently soothed my heart with tender words: “Yeah, we’ll meet again soon.”

It was also a moment when I once again realized how Jun’s feelings for me—once pure and youthful like they’d been when he was twenty—had quietly, slowly matured over time.

But… truthfully, that was how I’d felt only until this morning. Starting this afternoon, my heart had quietly begun to lift with anticipation.

All this time, it had seemed as though only other people’s windows framed soft, round clouds lazily drifting by, and wide swaths of orange sunlight streaming in. That single sheet of glass by my desk had felt uniquely cruel to me.

Yet it was undeniably the same view from the same spot and same angle. Today, though, it was as if someone with enormous hands had swept away every storm cloud and downpour, leaving behind a scene clearer than anything I’d ever seen.

The world outside mirrored my heart. Perhaps the fluttering excitement I felt had even reached beyond the windowpane.

A light smile floated onto my lips, as airy as the clouds drifting past the glass.

“Lee Ha Ru.”

“Oh! Seo Jung Eun… You really startled me just now. Could you at least make some noise when you come over…?”

“How else am I supposed to get your attention when you’re glued to the window and don’t hear a thing?”
