The sunlight streaming in through the second floor felt particularly intense, warming up quickly.
Lying quietly in my bed on the second floor, I felt a faint heat on my skin touching the bedsheet, and sweat began to stick uncomfortably.
I started feeling a distant sensation, as if melting into the bed. But when the heat reached up to my neck, I forced myself out of bed.
From the white dresser nestled like it belonged in the corner of the room, I took out some clothes to change into.
The old house had only one shower room, located on the first floor. I had dozed off before getting up, but since I hadn’t heard Jun come in, the shower room should be empty by now.
Walking through the empty living room, I headed to the first-floor shower room. Just as I was about to reach the door, unbuttoning one button of my short-sleeve shirt, I reached for the handle.
At that moment, a wave of hot air mixed with a strong scent of body wash enveloped me.
Instinctively lifting my head, I saw Jun, who had just finished showering and was tousling his hair with a towel. He looked down at me, a surprised expression on his face. Despite the embarrassment, the hot steam from the shower room quickly spread a flush across my face.
Embarrassed, I first avoided Jun’s gaze, looking down. Unintentionally, my eyes caught sight of Jun’s broad chest, moist and pink from the hot shower, with his training pants hanging precariously at his waistline.
Unable to keep my overtly revealing gaze down, I lifted my head again. Jun, in a similarly awkward situation, was slightly opening his mouth, looking down at me.

As I turned to leave quickly, my wrist was suddenly grasped.
“Sorry, I didn’t know you were here. You came down to use the shower, right? Go ahead.”
Leaving only those words behind, Jun casually swept his hair with the towel and went upstairs. Even after Jun was out of sight, my flushed cheeks refused to return to their normal color.
After showering and stepping out, my hair still partially wet, I took a few steps, running my hands through my hair.
My gaze naturally drifted to the living room. Jun was sitting in front of the sliding door that led outside, the sun shining on his wet hair.
I was about to pass by when I hesitated, then changed direction and sat down beside him, before he could turn to look.
I saw a half-drunk cup of orange juice. Trying to ease the awkwardness, I picked it up and drank as if I had come for it. The cold sweetness felt good going down my throat. After putting the cup down, I licked my upper lip, feeling a sense of longing.
That’s when our eyes met. Jun’s eyes widened a bit as he looked down at me, making me feel ticklish.
“If you wanted some, you should have said so. I would have poured you a fresh cup.”
“I thought the one in this cup looked good.”

I quickly avoided Jun’s gaze.
“What were you doing here?”
Outside the sliding door, sparse young trees swayed in the breeze.
“Doesn’t it look like I’m doing something?”
“Nothing…”
“Yeah, right. That’s what I was doing.”
“What kind of answer is that?”
Jun looked at me and smiled brightly.
“Should we listen to some music? Do you have any song you’d like to hear?”
Jun took out his phone, scrolling through it at a steady pace. The word ‘song’ triggered a particular tune in my mind.

“Ah, there is a song I really like.”
“What is it?”
Jun asked nonchalantly, still focused on the screen.
“It’s an old song. I like the lyrics and melody so much that I memorized it. It’s in Japanese, but still.”
“Eharu, who can barely speak a few words of Japanese, must have really liked this song to memorize it.”
Jun looked at me expectantly, his hands on his phone screen, waiting for me to name the song.
“Uh… it’s called ‘sweet melody.'”
“Ah, that song. I like it too.”
Jun glanced at my face and then promptly pressed the play button. The familiar lyrics I knew so well began to float on the sunlight, twinkling rhythmically in the air.
Jun stretched his arms back to support himself and closed his eyes.
“It’s perfect for a day like this.”

He nodded his head slightly to the rhythm, seemingly enjoying the song.
Although it felt a bit embarrassing, Jun was right. My Japanese was limited to just a few phrases, but I had memorized the lyrics of this song from start to finish.
At first, it was just mindlessly humming along due to constant repeat plays without understanding the meaning. But gradually, I became curious about the meanings behind these fragrant melodies.
Eventually, this song became the only Japanese song I learned completely, understanding both the meaning and the correct pronunciation of the lyrics.
Just as the first verse was nearing its end, my favorite lyrics reached my ears.
[The moment our lips touch. It feels so sweet, it’s almost suffocating.]“Jun.”
“Yeah.”
“Is it really like that?”
“Like what?”

“I can’t imagine it just from the song. Is that feeling real?”
“What do you mean?”
“The lyrics of the song.”
“……Ah. The lips, something something?”
“Yeah. When lips touch, it feels so sweet, it’s almost suffocating.”
“…….”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
