I am standing in front of that house.
In my memory, it’s somewhat dim, hazy, and the pointed triangular thatched roof of the wooden house, its color faded.
That house stands before me, as if it could be reached if I just reached out my hand, even though it wasn’t by Jun’s side during the nine years that I was absent.
…Or perhaps, this house was not just dry land, but the place I left Jun behind.
I hurriedly lowered my gaze.
Staring at that house any longer might reveal all the emotions I should have already emptied regarding Jun.
I opened the small wooden door, barely reaching my waist, and stepped into the yard.
After a few steps, I felt the strong scent of freshly mown grass filling the air, seeping into my chest.
With a trembling heart, I struggled to take a deep breath and stood in front of Jun’s house.
I neatly gathered my toes.

I didn’t have the courage to ring the bell without any mental preparation.
Is Jun really behind this door?
With just that small thought, my chest rapidly decreased in volume as if I had to breathe out quickly enough to endure the pain.
In the end, I repeatedly pulled the index finger that had been brought near the bell next to the door toward my chest.
Thinking that I couldn’t delay time like this any longer, I took a deep breath and brought my finger back.
Suddenly, the door swung open before my eyes.
Between the open door, a man spoke without giving my heart a chance to recover.
“Do you know the spell to open the door? What are you doing in front of my door?”
I could tell at a glance. It was Jun.
His firm voice.

Eyebrows raised as if displeased, but those warm puppy eyes that still embraced me.
As if absorbing the abundant sunlight that only seemed to shine around this house, even his shiny brown hair.
Jun, who looked like the twenty-year-old boy in my memory, overlapped with the man standing before me.
“I’ve been watching you trying to open the gate for a while now…”
I forcibly fixed my gaze on Jun.
Jun tilted his head, looking down at me.
“Why, couldn’t recognize me because it’s been so long? I erased you from my memory, so it’s not coming back easily?”
Because I couldn’t believe that Jun was standing before me.
It was too unreal.
I had been staring at his eyes, nose, and lips as if caressing them, and then such unpleasant words came back.

My gaze shook as I looked into Jun’s eyes.
I felt like warmth was spreading everywhere his gaze touched.
Finally, I turned my gaze around the door and greeted the awkwardness that surrounded us with a nod.
“How have you been?”
“Yeah, met a lot of girls. Come in.”
I heard the invitation to enter, but I couldn’t step forward right away.
I had forgotten.
A seaside village located in a small provincial city in southern Kyushu, Japan.
The place where twenty-year-old me and twenty-year-old Jun first fell in love and experienced our first farewell.
The road to get here is by no means easy.
It stretches endlessly along the steep mountain path in an S-shape, making me want to ask the person who made this road if it was really the best way.

I never expected to come back here.
The rattling of the car, the seemingly never-ending winding road, and my own jumbled emotions were making everything even more chaotic.
The scenery of the seaside village where memories with Jun were hidden here and there came into view.
It’s a feeling that even the shimmering sea, visible from afar, is making my feelings for Jun, which I wanted to keep hidden from everyone, surge.
It was all because of my story being picked. No, it was the problem of Jun secretly inserting my story…
I’ve been working as a broadcast writer for six years, covering hidden attractions and the stories of people living there, both domestically and internationally.
For this spring’s revamp, I planned a new project called “Where Is Your First Love?”.
The project involved receiving viewers’ stories and finding places where their first love memories were embedded, and then having actors reenact those stories.
But being chosen as the first storyteller for the highly anticipated first project was a disaster.
I had to overcome the blind evaluation, excluding Hakyeon and Jiyeon.

“This is no joke, I’m about to throw up. When does this road ever end?”
It wasn’t just Jeongeun who handled the story review alone, so there was no one to blame.
So, all I could do was repeatedly lie to my friend and fellow writer Jeongeun, who looked at me with a resentful gaze, saying that I had almost done everything I could for her now.
“Unni, I feel like I’m going to die too. Even the driver’s seat is on the opposite side from Korea, and the side is a cliff, and my shoulders hurt so much from holding on too tightly.”
We had been driving on a road that was more twisted than a twisty breadstick for over 30 minutes, so naturally, I felt guilty when I heard the painful cries of our team’s youngest, Hyunsoo.
Even though I wasn’t the one who made this road, it was true that I ended up on this road because of me.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
