“I have never attempted to harm the Empress, neither in intent nor in heart. As I mentioned earlier, I saved the Empress. How could I, who tried to save her, be the culprit attempting to harm the Empress?”
In this trial where lies dominated, I continued to speak calmly, looking directly at each person’s face, with only the truth.
“Yes. I witnessed Rosentia Yeong-ae desperately trying to save the Empress, even breaking into a cold sweat.”
At that moment, a lady’s voice echoed through the conference hall.
When I turned my head toward the familiar voice, there was Countess Charlotte Melison.
“Lady! Please refrain from stepping forward.”
Count Melison, who was standing beside her, restrained the countess.
“Rosentia Yeong-ae would never do such a thing.”
“Lady!”
“I did not grant Countess Melison the right to speak. Please be cautious.”
“But… I understand.”
Now that I think about it, Marquis Ers seemed to be somehow affiliated with the Empress.
Whenever the conference hall was about to become turbulent due to my answers, the Marquis tried to disrupt the flow somehow.
“Now, I’ll ask Rosentia Yeong-ae again. Do you truly deny attempting to harm the Empress?”
“Yes. I cannot admit to it.”
I answered with an expression of no shame and a dignified attitude.
“But both evidence and witnesses have emerged. Are you still going to deny it?”
“All the evidence and witnesses are manipulated.”
“Manipulated? Despite swearing here to speak only the truth without falsehoods, are you still trying to lie?”
“No. It’s not a lie.”
My continued denial caused another uproar in the conference hall.
And at that moment, the Empress was seen raising her hand towards Marquis Ers.
“If Your Majesty allows, let us present evidence and witnesses here.”
“Very well. Proceed as you suggested.”
“Understood, Emperor. First, I will call forward Captain William Loins, who found evidence at the Rosentia Mansion. Please come forward, Captain William Loins.”
In response to Marquis Ers’s call, the captain who had been monitoring me from behind stepped forward.
“The radiant sun of the Royden Empire, Emperor Benedict Royden, and the noble moon, Empress Monica Royden, greet you.”
The captain first kneeled and saluted toward the Emperor and Empress.
“Rise.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
“William Loins, swear before the gods that you will speak only the truth without a single falsehood in this place.”
“Yes. I, William Loins, swear in this place to speak only the truth without a single falsehood.”
“Very well. Now, I will begin questioning Captain Loins. Captain Loins, a few days ago, were you in charge of overseeing the search at the Rosentia Estate?”
“Yes. That is correct.”
“Then please explain to everyone here what you discovered at that location.”
“With permission, my subordinates and I conducted a search of the Rosentia Estate. Despite leaving the study untouched, we couldn’t find any evidence anywhere. However, during the search of the last remaining study, near the sofa, we discovered yellow petals that strongly resembled Asdel. Upon confirmation, it was indeed Asdel petals.”
When the captain gestured to someone, a knight who seemed to be his subordinate hurriedly ran over and handed him something.
“Here are the Asdel petals found at the Rosentia Estate.”
The captain showed the petals, wrapped in a handkerchief, to the people.
“Rosentia Yeong-ae, are these petals indeed Asdel?”
“Yes. But that evidence has been manipulated. I didn’t…”
I wanted to say I had never seen them, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak the words.
Having sworn before the gods, I couldn’t lie here.
And Marquis Ers, noticing my hesitation, began to press me further.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
