Throughout Owen’s narration, Kaiserin remained silent, nodding in acknowledgment. “Where’s the child?” he asked, his gaze fixed on Owen with a guarded expression.

Owen, with a wary look, stared back at Kaiserin, who inquired about Chloe’s whereabouts. “I can never tell you that,” Owen replied.

“I’m not trying to threaten or harm the child.”

“Then why ask?”

“I’m trying to protect her.”

“Protect?”

“Yes, from the Empress. In this empire, there’s nowhere beyond the Empress’s sight and hearing except here.”

“But…”
“I suppose you still don’t trust the Empress.”

“That’s correct, but…”

Since Owen joined hands with Duke La Berion to save Sierra, the Empress was now his enemy just as much as she was to him. However, that didn’t make Kaiserin feel like an ally either. Despite reluctantly revealing all his stories to him, Owen couldn’t bring himself to trust Kaiserin with the knowledge of the child’s existence.

Kaiserin observed Owen quietly and brought up a story he didn’t know. “Do you know that there were others secretly hiding in the temple that day, aside from you and your subordinates?”

“What are you talking about?” Owen asked with a surprised expression, hearing this for the first time.

“In order to save Helena, I had told my subordinates to follow me. But when we were almost at the temple, a significant number of armed individuals attacked them.”

Even with just that information, Owen could deduce who those people were. It meant that the Empress had no intention of sparing him from the beginning. Once he completed the task, she planned to eliminate him without a trace.

“Whether the mission succeeded or failed, I was prepared to die right there.”

“That’s true. Well, thanks to those people, your plan to kill me almost succeeded, but it didn’t, right?”

The poisoned dagger provided by the Empress could have killed Kaiserin La Berion. Owen had the opportunity to eliminate him when he fled, but eventually, Kaiserin’s subordinates rushed in, and the attempt failed.
“And probably, the Empress won’t spare Sierra Harper either.”

The moment Owen heard those words, he put an end to the hesitation that had persisted until now.

“I entrusted the child to the foster parents who raised me.”

Owen informed Kaiserin of the current location of the foster parents and Chloe.

“Bring the three of them here right away.”

When Kaiserin gestured to Logan, Logan approached him.

“Ensure the safe return of the three. Select a few trustworthy individuals from the Order, move secretly without being noticed by anyone, and bring them back.”

“Understood.”

“Leave immediately.”

“Yes. I’ll go now.”

After Logan greeted Kaiserin, he immediately left the prison.

As Owen watched his retreating figure, he turned his head to look at Kaiserin and spoke.

“So, what should I do?”

“As I mentioned earlier, a trial will be held soon. Write a letter to Sierra Harper, informing her of the situation.”

“Got it.”

This time, Kaiserin signaled Jace.

Upon receiving the signal, Jace began to untie Owen, who was tightly bound to the chair.

After a while, a desk, some stationery, and a pen were provided for Owen to write the letter.

While Owen wrote the letter, Kaiserin watched him silently, deeply lost in thought about what to do next.

As soon as they left the La Berion mansion, the carriage’s windows were forcibly closed, as if trying to prevent me from seeing the outside.
“Surely, we’re not heading to some strange place instead of the palace, right?”

It was inevitable to feel uneasy about knowing who the Empress was.

Even as I fretted, the carriage continued on, and after a while, it came to a complete stop.

Fortunately, when I roughly estimated the time, it seemed like we would arrive at the palace.

When the door opened, the captain gestured for me to get off, extending his hand.

Ignoring his hand, I cautiously got off the carriage.

Looking at some nearby buildings, it seemed like we were indeed inside the palace, as expected.

Perhaps because the Emperor was overseeing this matter, the Empress couldn’t act recklessly.

However, the building in front of me was a place I had never visited while wandering through the palace.

“Where is this?”

“Please follow me.”

Ignoring my question, the captain walked ahead.

I glared at his retreating figure with a bitter feeling, then reluctantly followed.

As we entered the building, the interior was filled with a nauseating smell, as if proving that it was not an ordinary space.

For a moment, a similar place in the Duke’s mansion came to mind.

And as if confirming my expectations, stone stairs leading directly underground appeared right in front of me.

“Is this not a prison?”

Confirming it, I stood still at the top of the stairs, facing the captain.

He stopped his steps to enter and turned around to look at me.

“Yes, it is.”
“Why do I have to go to prison? I came here as a suspect.”

“I am merely following the orders of His Majesty, the Emperor.”

“But…!”

“If you don’t enter willingly, I have no choice but to use force. Is that what you want?”

The captain asked me with a stern gaze.

No, it wasn’t a question; it was more like a threat.

Locked in a staring contest with him, I eventually resigned myself and reluctantly set foot on the stone stairs.

My Step-brother Is Obsessed With Me (Female-dominant)

A gentle female protagonist vs pitiful in the early stage, and a sick male protagonist in the later stage

Cheng Songer transmigrated into the body of a vicious cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her in a female-dominant novel.

In the original story, the cannon fodder female supporting character was inhumane, committing domestic violence, gambling excessively, being lustful, and even wanting to sell her stepbrother to a brothel for money.

As luck would have it, she just happened to transmigrate at this time.

Seeing Cheng Qingzhi biting his lip, enduring the tears in his eyes, looking pitiful, her heart softened.

She stuffed the money back into the Madam’s hand and reached out to him.

“Brother, come home with me.”
