After Linking the Villainess and Male Lead (5 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 6
‘Huh? There’s that shop I went to with Adelia last time.’
That place is where I watched a play half a year ago—an experience that left a deep impression on me.
The sole reason that play has stayed in my mind so vividly until now is simple:
Its theme bore an uncanny resemblance to my own situation.
The play, which portrayed a heroine’s pure devotion toward a hero who didn’t initially return her affection, concluded happily when the hero finally reciprocated her love.
The beginning of the story had mirrored my own, yet the ending turned out completely different.
‘Sigh.’
Anyway, I no longer had anyone with whom I could enjoy such plays together.
The person with whom I’d spent most of my days had simply vanished.
Thus, my life had changed from how it used to be—shifting away from shared moments to doing things mostly alone.
“Amy, tell the driver to stop just ahead—the flower shop is nearby.”
One of these solitary habits was visiting the flower shop more often.
“Yes, miss.”
Moments later, the carriage came to a complete halt in front of the flower shop.
I stepped down and walked straight inside.
“Oh my, Lady Helena! Welcome!”
Since I visited frequently, the shopkeeper recognized me immediately and greeted me warmly.
“Show me the new flowers you’ve received today.”
“Of course! I prepared them in advance, anticipating your visit. This way, please.”
I followed the shopkeeper deeper into the shop.
There, neatly arranged, a variety of flowers in different colors appeared before my eyes.
After glancing over them, I pointed to a flower whose hue seemed ambiguous—somewhere between yellow and light green—and asked the shopkeeper,
“What kind of flower is this?”
“As expected of Lady Helena! It’s called Flora, just delivered today.”
“Flora?”
Even someone well-versed in flowers like me had never heard that name before.
“Yes! Flora blooms mostly in regions warm like spring throughout the year, so you rarely see it here in the capital or even in surrounding domains.”
“Then this plant must be difficult to cultivate here?”
“Not exactly. If you keep it indoors somewhere warm until the stem matures fully, you can then transplant it into your garden, where it’ll thrive beautifully. Also…”
Listening to the shopkeeper, I realized it seemed labor-intensive at first, but once past that stage, it might actually require less care than other flowers.
Moreover, its pastel-like color would likely add a cheerful, seasonal touch to Lavellion Garden, which I intended to renovate.
“Shall I show you other flowers too?”
“Yes, please.”
Having mentally reserved a spot in the garden for Flora, I examined the other blooms.
“How about this one?”
The shopkeeper pointed to a white flower.
“This seems like Brelia—another rarity around here, isn’t it?”
“Oh my! You truly know your flowers, miss. Many customers who study botany come here, but no one’s ever identified it correctly on the first try like you just did.”
The shopkeeper looked at me admiringly. “As you know, Brelia grows near the seaside. Like mature Flora, it’s incredibly hardy—but its roots are delicate, making live transplantation tricky. We succeeded this time, though. This is proof.”
I’d seen the shopkeeper’s pride in her store countless times before, so I offered a small smile and nodded in agreement.
I wouldn’t have come regularly all the way from the manor if not for her evident passion.
Thanks to her exceptional care, I trusted her fully with selecting flowers for my own garden.
“Then I’ll take these two today. And if you have their seeds, I’ll take those as well.”
I pointed to Flora and Brelia and paid immediately.
“I’ll pack them right away—feel free to look around a bit more.”
I nodded and gave the shop another glance.
After making a quick round, I saw the shopkeeper had neatly wrapped the roots of both Flora and Brelia and loaded them onto the rear cart of my carriage.
“I’ve packed exactly the quantity you requested. Please check once you’re home, and if any arrive in poor condition, just let me know anytime. Since it’s you, Lady Helena, I’ll personally select healthy replacements and send them straight to your estate.”
“If you chose them, I trust them without even checking. There won’t be any issues, so don’t worry.”
“Oh, thank you! I’ll keep preparing unique and lovely flowers and plants—please visit anytime.”

“I’ll buy plenty.”
With the shopkeeper’s farewell, I climbed back into the carriage.
Upon returning home, I changed clothes immediately and headed to the garden with Amy and several servants.
“Where should I plant them?”
Since the shopkeeper advised waiting a few more days before transplanting Flora, I planned to keep it indoors for now—so today, I needed to decide where to plant Brelia.
“Hmm.”
Thinking its white blooms would suit the garden’s edge better than its center, I carried Brelia toward the left side.
I approached the pre-prepared spot and instructed the servants on the proper orientation for planting.
‘This is the perfect place.’
Before the others finished planting, I stepped back to take in the whole garden at once.
Today’s new flowers harmonized beautifully with my garden.
Just as I was about to plant the rest, the garden of Duke Lavellion’s estate flashed through my mind.
Should I plant some there too?
These flowers would surely suit that garden as well.
‘But… is it alright to go?’
Currently, it wasn’t Adelia but Kaern who resided at Duke Lavellion’s estate.
‘What should I do?’
I wanted to go—planting Brelia there felt right—but the thought of Kaern still made me hesitate.
After much deliberation, I decided I’d avoid visiting the Duke’s estate unless it was truly necessary to change seasonal flowers.
It wasn’t because I couldn’t visit as freely as when Adelia was there—it was for an entirely different reason.
Ever since his words to me at Adelia’s wedding, I’d been caught in complicated emotions, unable to face Kaern.
Past experience told me that whenever I encountered him in such states, I inevitably made strange mistakes—so I sensed danger ahead.
Thus, minimizing contact with him was clearly the wiser choice.
Still, even now, I couldn’t clearly decipher his intention in asking me to attend the banquet together.
Could it really be just out of concern for me?
I’d already told him I was fine—if that were the case.
Of course, he couldn’t possibly be unaware how difficult things had been for me since Adelia’s absence.
He, of all people, would understand that.
Yet, somehow, accepting that explanation felt unsatisfying—something nagged at me, refusing to settle neatly.
‘I don’t know.’
No matter how much I thought about it, I just didn’t know.
That was my conclusion after prolonged contemplation.
Or rather—not a conclusion, but an unresolved question.
A few days later, the prince’s birthday banquet day arrived.
Even on the day itself, after endless reflection, I found myself wondering whether Kaern would truly come.
He was the type who always kept his word—but he’d never once said he’d come pick me up.
Still half-doubting, I occasionally glanced outside while preparing for the banquet.
Regardless of the unclear reasons, knowing I’d attend with Kaern made me want to put extra effort into my preparations today.
So I braided half of my chestnut-brown hair on each side and chose a soft lilac dress that would complement my violet eyes.
Having lost my favorite hair ornament, I finished all other preparations and looked out the window with a flutter of anticipation.
Then I spotted a carriage bearing the lion crest of House Lavellion approaching my estate.
‘He actually came.’
As Kaern stepped down from the carriage, I stopped thinking and hurried out front, afraid he might leave without me.
“Your Grace!”
At my cheerful call, Kaern turned and looked at me.
As always, he looked exceptionally dashing.
Seeing him in his formal black tailcoat, I silently marveled inwardly.
“You’re early.”
“Are you not quite ready yet?”
“No, I’m done. I just need to add the hairpiece—wait one moment, please.”

As I turned to head back inside, the maid arrived just in time, holding my hair ornament in her hands.

“How dare you!”
“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?
“I will never accept that.”
“I will never let you return to him.”
“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”
“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”
“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!
At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.
Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.
The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.
Synopsis:

Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?
Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?

I don’t know why she has so many theories, when the only and simplest one is that Kaern likes her, and that’s the exact one that doesn’t even cross her mind. I feel like hitting her with a chair.
