“You take after your mother—can’t drink anything hot.”

Jae In, who had been staring only at the teacup on the table, lifted her gaze. Dae Hoon, holding his own cup after taking a sip of his favorite herbal tea, smiled gently as if recalling a pleasant memory.

“Your mother would also sit there for a long time whenever she had tea in front of her. She’d only take a sip once it had cooled to lukewarm.”

Jae In found it amusing how this man spoke so confidently about her mother, as though he truly knew her. Her mother didn’t dislike hot drinks—she simply hated herbal tea.

If her mother, who used to quickly finish off a cup of hot chocolate insisting it tasted best when piping hot, were to hear this, she’d laugh in disbelief.

Jae In hadn’t left her tea untouched because it was too hot either. It was simply that, faced with someone who made her feel sick just looking at him, she had absolutely no desire to put anything in her mouth.

“Guess it’s lucky I take after my mom.”

Dae Hoon’s hand grew rough as he set his teacup down, clearly understanding Jae In’s implication—that she was fortunate precisely because she didn’t take after him, her father.

“If you called me here, just say what you need to say.”

“Talking back to your father after not seeing him for so long? Is that how your mother raised you?”

“Yes.”

“…What?”

“She taught me I don’t need to respect someone who doesn’t respect me.”

Dae Hoon frowned at Jae In’s bold yet calm demeanor.

For a moment, he felt as though he were looking at Yoon Se Na from long ago. The thought made his foolish daughter seem oddly endearing, and a smile tugged at his lips—until Jae In’s next words wiped it clean off his face.
