“Why aren’t you answering your phone like this? I’ve called you so many times since I arrived in Korea yesterday!”

“Did you really work on weekends, Tae Seo?”

Tae Seo, who had been stir-frying garlic while talking to Ted through his earphones, glanced quickly toward the sofa in the first-floor living room. Jae In, exhausted after swimming, was fast asleep in the same position she’d collapsed in.

She’d pretended she couldn’t swim at all, yet Jae In’s actual swimming ability was astonishing. At first, she’d feigned helplessness, clinging to Tae Seo and acting clingy—but then, in the blink of an eye, she’d gracefully dived underwater alone and glided past twenty meters with ease.

Stunned by her mermaid-like grace, Tae Seo stood speechless with his mouth open—until Jae In winked at him while releasing a relaxed breath.

“I actually love swimming. I started doing it for rehab at first, but then I realized how much fun playing in the water really is. I especially love ocean swimming. I even got certified in freediving.”

“…So an amateur tried to teach a pro, huh? How much were you laughing inside?”

“Tae Seo-ssi, your swimming skills aren’t amateur at all. Just because I only have a certificate doesn’t mean I’m nothing.”

“Tell me—what other sports do you like besides swimming?”

“I like hiking and mountain climbing. I’ve never played any sports involving balls. It’s mostly bodyweight exercise, you know? As you’re well aware, my daily routine is morning jogging and yoga…”

Ever since they started living together, the two had run along the Jeongryun-dong hillside every dawn. But that, too, belonged to the time before the weekend.

What they’d chosen to do all weekend instead of jogging was far too spontaneous to even call exercise—and yet, calling it anything but exercise would grossly understate how much energy it actually burned.

As they chatted, they quickly decided to head to the sea. Both, having spent long periods abroad, wanted to visit the domestic coastal spots recently gaining fame for surfing and diving.
