The mechanical sound indicated that the middle-aged woman connected to the oxygen respirator was breathing.

Su Cheol glanced indifferently at the middle-aged woman, who was barely breathing with the help of the oxygen respirator, and then sat down on a chair.

“Yeon Sil, it’s been a while.”

Su Cheol greeted her calmly, fully expecting no reply.

Though her emaciated body didn’t move at all, Su Cheol continued talking to himself as if it were routine.

“Your daughter still hasn’t given up on you. She’s got incredible tenacity, doesn’t she? She really takes after you in that stubbornness. Maybe that’s why, even in love, she acts just like you—always drawn to trashy men. Oh, don’t worry. She’s married now and living well.”

For now, at least.

“Maybe because she takes after you, whenever I see Da Hyun, I get so furious I can’t control myself.”

Then again, how could she possibly know her daughter was growing up to be just like her, when she couldn’t even watch her grow?

Su Cheol stared expressionlessly at Yeon Sil with her eyes closed, then suddenly chuckled under his breath.

The nursing home where Yeon Sil stayed was located in Goseong, Gangwon Province. Nestled deep in the mountains, it was difficult to reach. The entrance was sealed off by an iron gate, preventing just anyone from entering.

It wasn’t even listed online—officially a nursing home, but in reality built solely to hide Yeon Sil away.

This was to ensure that even if Yeon Sil ever opened her eyes, she couldn’t escape or cry for help.

Su Cheol made sure to visit this nursing home at least once every six months without fail.
