A Twisted Relationship (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 11
Min Hyuk stepped his feet out of bed and straightened the bedding. He was about to leave the bedroom for her, but immediately halted his steps.
He slightly turned his body and looked toward the bathroom door, through which Da Hyun had fled like she was escaping.
“I’ve been in an accident, you know. I even developed partial amnesia. And my mom, who’s in a coma, is hidden so thoroughly by my dad that I can’t possibly find her.”
Min Hyuk’s lips twisted faintly.
“It’s all my fault—that you had the accident and forgot me.”
Later, when you regain your memories, how will you look at me? Even if you despise me or stare at me with utter horror, I selfishly just want you to stay by my side.
Wearing a bitter smile, Min Hyuk averted his gaze from the bathroom, closed the door, and left.
She wouldn’t even guess.
That his real reason for returning to Korea was to fix and change their distorted relationship.
They say interpersonal luck is something you’re born with. Unfortunately, Da Hyun wasn’t blessed with any.
From Su Cheol to Ji Yeon and Young Sook—none of them were decent people.
Fortunately, she had a friend she could confide in openly, and merely knowing there was someone who truly listened to her words was enough to satisfy her.
She had thought there’d be no one else who’d listen to her or take her side.
But then he appeared—a man who claimed from the very beginning that he wanted to marry her.
While using the hair dryer to dry even her scalp, Da Hyun recalled the firm forearms that had encircled her waist.
Just thinking that she’d slept pressed tightly against him made her face flush hotly.
“Why am I like this?”
Water dripped steadily from the tips of her hair. She must be insane.
Even when she tried to recall last night, those memories showed no sign of returning. Giving up on thinking, Da Hyun turned her thoughts to Min Hyuk.
“At least he’s a gentleman.”
He wouldn’t touch a woman who’s drunk.
“Does that mean he would’ve touched me if I hadn’t been drunk?”
Could it have become a historic day, then?
At the hazy image forming in her mind, Da Hyun gasped in shock and hastily swallowed the scream about to burst out.
You’re crazy, Han Da Hyun! What are you even thinking?!
Her desire, which had never surfaced before, suddenly poked its head out.
Da Hyun shook her head vigorously and turned the hair dryer back on.
It’s not like she even liked him—so what was this nonsense about a “historic day”? That kind of thing was for married couples…
Whiiing-
The hair dryer spun pointlessly in midair, making noise without any target.
Huh? Wait a second.
Min Hyuk was indeed her official spouse.
Da Hyun looked at her flushed reflection in the mirror and saw herself flustered and losing composure.
She felt utterly swayed by him.
This couldn’t go on.
“I need to draw a clear line.”
She had to remember they weren’t a real couple—just business partners playing the role of a show-window couple.
Staring intensely into the mirror, Da Hyun sternly warned herself.
“You absolute fool! Don’t get all fluttery over something silly—especially not with Kang Min Hyuk!”
She mustn’t be charmed by Min Hyuk’s kind and considerate demeanor.
Da Hyun steadied her quickened breath. It was time to step out of the bathroom.
She’d rushed into the bathroom earlier as if escaping from Min Hyuk and had forgotten to bring fresh clothes.
“He’s not still out there, is he?”
Da Hyun pressed her ear tightly against the door.
Then, realizing how absurd her own action was, she let out an awkward laugh.
“What on earth am I doing?”
Even if he hadn’t left and was tossing and turning in bed, it was impossible for her to hear anything from this distance.
Embarrassed, Da Hyun pulled her ear away from the door.
She reached out and grasped the doorknob. She couldn’t stay holed up in the bathroom forever just to avoid running into Min Hyuk.
It was all or nothing.
Trending
If he hadn’t left yet, she could just naturally grab some clothes and bring them into the bathroom.
Alright, let’s go.
The doorknob turned downward. Opening the door, Da Hyun peeked out her head like a stealthy cat on tiptoes.
From the quiet stillness, she knew Min Hyuk had already left the bedroom.
Her tense body relaxed, and she confidently pushed the door fully open and stepped out.
“Figures.”
Relieved that Min Hyuk wasn’t there, Da Hyun raised both arms to stretch.
She hummed a cheerful tune under her breath, savoring her joy.
Da Hyun opened the closet and gathered clothes to change into.
Her drunkenness had vanished, and after washing up, even her throbbing headache was gone.
So relieved by Kang Min Hyuk’s absence, Da Hyun didn’t even notice the bedroom door hadn’t been closed.
Since he’d said he wouldn’t be going to work this week, as long as she managed to avoid him somehow for just this week, they wouldn’t run into each other much.
As she pulled at the tightly tied ribbon strap, she unconsciously turned her head toward the open doorway.
Her hand, clutching the bathrobe belt, went limp.
“…Am I still drunk? Or am I just thinking too hard? Am I seeing things?”
Haha. Da Hyun turned her head again and blinked rapidly.
“…It’s not a hallucination.”
Today really might be the day her heart shocks itself to a stop.
His black hair, calmly covering his forehead, swayed slightly as he leaned against the doorframe, watching her.
“Da Hyun, are you trying to seduce me?”
Min Hyuk’s eyes slowly traveled from top to bottom. Da Hyun, who’d been dazedly lost in thought, hastily gathered her bathrobe. Her hands fumbled anxiously as she tied the belt.
“Why—why did you come back up? I thought you’d be in your study or downstairs.”
“My private room is right next to the bedroom. I happened to see you while passing by. Sorry.”
Unable to meet his eyes properly, Da Hyun’s pupils darted around nervously.
“I—I didn’t know. By the way, a private room? There’s another room besides the study? What about my room? Did I have my own separate room too?”
“Yeah. Isn’t that obvious? There’s more than just this room on the second floor.”
Da Hyun then finally remembered there were four rooms on the second floor.
She really was clueless—she’d assumed she didn’t have her own room simply because her clothes were in the bedroom.
“Judging by that blank look, you really didn’t know.”
“Then why are you telling me now?”
Da Hyun muttered softly, pressing the clothes she’d picked up tightly against her chest so she wouldn’t drop them.
She’d been stuck in the bedroom all this time without even knowing that.
“I just assumed you already knew. Who’d have guessed you still hadn’t properly looked around the house?”
His tone, almost scolding, made Da Hyun fall silent.
Min Hyuk waited patiently for her to speak first.
Just moments ago, the bedroom had felt comfortable—but his presence had now made it awkward.
“I’ll go look at my room while I change clothes.”
Da Hyun took a step forward and approached the doorway.
She looked up at Min Hyuk, who was leaning against the door and blocking her path.
By the way, with his bangs covering his forehead, he looked younger than his actual age. His skin was good and his features were so sharp that even with his hair down, he still gave off a youthful vibe.
Yet, despite his naturally moving black hair—untouched by wax—his cold impression remained unchanged.
Still, his personality seemed genuinely kind.
“Move aside.”
“Hmm, should I really just step aside obediently?”
Scratch that—he didn’t seem kind at all anymore.
“Da Hyun, do you really want to pass by?”
Teasingly playful, his tone made Da Hyun bite her lip in irritation.
“Never mind, I’ll just change in the bathroom.”
“I actually like staying in the bedroom all day.”
“….”

He’d only meant to lighten the mood with a joke, but an awkward silence fell instead.
“Da Hyun, relax. If I really wanted to do something to you, I would’ve done it by now, right? It was just a joke. Seriously, just a joke.”
He felt hurt that she still treated him like a stranger.
It’d be nice if she could be a little more comfortable around him.
Legally, they were married—but in reality, they were no different than strangers. He wished she wouldn’t be so guarded, though it seemed it might take more time.
“How can you be so frosty toward your own husband? It’s hurtful, you know.”
It was embarrassing that he could clearly see her flushed face.
But embarrassment was only temporary—just for a moment.
“I’m not nervous. I know how to tell the difference between jokes and seriousness.”
Da Hyun’s lips moved several times before she finally pressed them shut. There was no need to make it obvious she didn’t have a single lover.
“But Da Hyun, I have a question—wasn’t I the first person you told about your amnesia?”
“Huh?”
Da Hyun’s mind froze.
Had she really told him she had amnesia?
But in her memory, she didn’t recall ever mentioning it to Min Hyuk.
Before she could voice her suspicion, Min Hyuk quickly added,
“You told me last night when you were drunk.”
“I—I said that?”
Da Hyun denied it, unable to believe it—but alcohol had a way of erasing memories like magic, especially for someone like her who’d blacked out from overdrinking.
“Yeah. You were lamenting that after your accident, you developed partial amnesia and couldn’t remember anything about Kang Si Hoon at all.”
That was way too specific…
Da Hyun felt flustered, as if Min Hyuk had easily uncovered a secret she’d wanted to keep hidden—and worse, it was practically a personal weakness she’d never wanted him to know.
“…Weren’t you surprised?”
“Why would I be?”
“You have amnesia, you know.”
“So what?”
He acted so nonchalant, even though he surely knew amnesia wasn’t something that happened easily.
It almost made her feel strange for having hidden it all this time.
“What?”
“The past is just the past. And honestly, it’s better that you’ve forgotten.”
“….”
“Even if you only told me because you were drunk, I’m glad you did. So don’t worry about it.”
It was the first time anyone had reacted this way. Su Cheol had told her to hide her amnesia as if it were some huge flaw. But Min Hyuk—despite not knowing the full details—had understood her right away.
Min Hyuk didn’t want her to worry about him knowing she had amnesia. He also hoped she wouldn’t hide it from others. It wasn’t a flaw—it was just a sad consequence of an accident.
“I just wish you’d be more at ease with me. Even if our relationship started with a contract.”
“….”
“Aren’t there plenty of couples who start off wrong but still end up happy?”
“There might be, but our divorce is already decided.”
At the word “divorce,” Min Hyuk’s expression hardened briefly before he quickly masked it.
“Right.”
Watching him smile with that bitter expression made her feel inexplicably guilty.
They’d clearly set an end from the beginning—but he seemed as if he didn’t want that at all.
“Why are you suddenly looking so down? Your face is bright red—you look like a wilted cherry tomato.”
Min Hyuk chuckled softly, noticing Da Hyun was nervously reading his mood again. This behavior was exactly the same as before—nothing had changed.
“What’s a ‘wilted cherry tomato’? That’s so old-fashioned.”
And how exactly could a tomato even wilt?
Da Hyun suppressed the urge to argue back. Min Hyuk gave a light shrug.
“Go check the mirror. You look just like one—haven’t you heard that before?”
“No? I’ve never heard that from you, Min Hyuk.”
“Really? Then I must be the first. Just like I was the first to know about your amnesia.”

He wore a satisfied smile.
His mood swings seemed pretty extreme.
Da Hyun realized her embarrassment had faded, and she slowly studied his face.
He looked cold when expressionless—but when he smiled, he radiated warmth and calm reassurance.
“No matter how long I look, you’re seriously handsome.”
Da Hyun accidentally spoke aloud the words she’d meant to quietly swallow to herself.
In that instant, Min Hyuk’s lips parted slightly—as if he’d been struck out of nowhere.
“Huh?”
“Ah… did I say that out loud?”
Realizing too late what she’d just blurted out, Da Hyun quickly covered her mouth with her hands.
“Yeah.”
At his short reply, Da Hyun’s eyes widened in horror behind her hands.
Min Hyuk swayed slightly and stepped aside from the doorway.
Da Hyun didn’t miss the moment—she hurried past him with quick steps.
Min Hyuk watched intently as Da Hyun walked briskly down the hallway and opened another door.
Only after she’d gone inside did Min Hyuk finally cover his mouth with his hand.
“I almost made a complete fool of myself.”
Starting from his ears—which had turned a deep shade of red—his entire face flushed hotly.
