Min Hyuk, regretting his behavior like a teenage boy, took some time for self-reflection after Da Hyun coldly turned and went inside.
Da Hyun was the only one he ever played pranks on or teased. He could confidently say that today was his happiest day, as he laughed heartily, perhaps more than he ever had.
Feeling sorry for not considering her feelings in his emotional overdrive, he followed her upstairs.
“Da Hyun.”
He called her name calmly, knocking on the door. But Da Hyun had locked her bedroom door, leaving him no chance to appease her.
Knocking and calling her name brought no response or opening of the door.
“I was wrong.”
Min Hyuk quickly apologized, wondering if she knew he hardly ever said sorry to anyone. But he could apologize to her, even kneel if needed.
She was different. While everyone else seemed the same, she was special.
“Da Hyun, please open the door. Okay? I went too far. I guess I got too excited about our first date.”

He made no excuses and knocked again.
Still, there was no response from Da Hyun.
She must be really angry.
Min Hyuk clenched his teeth, concluding that his excessive laughter had upset her.
Why couldn’t he control his emotions today that usually were so well-managed?
He harshly criticized himself, thinking she might need some time alone.
This is why one shouldn’t do things they don’t usually do.
Ruffling his hair, he sighed.
“Da Hyun, if you feel a bit better, please open the door. I’ll go down and spend time reflecting.”
In a defeated voice, he whispered closely to the door, hoping to soften her heart.

Hearing no response, he sighed and walked away.
Before stepping down the stairs, he looked back unnecessarily, but the door remained firmly shut.
“I should have kept it moderate.”
He didn’t deny overdoing it with laughter today, admitting that it was understandable for her to be annoyed. With drooping shoulders, he trudged down the stairs.
Once downstairs, he headed to the study. There was something he needed to do before reflecting.
Entering the study and closing the door, he pulled out a photograph from his jacket.
He looked at the picture of a couple, bitter-sweetly. The smile that was just there was now gone, as if he had been acting in a play.
“That’s the only photo of us from the past. So, I brought it.”
He gazed at the photo tenderly.
In it, a younger-looking Da Hyun smiled shyly, as if embarrassed.

He had to take it from the café. He was the only one who remembered their past.
The reason Min Hyuk revisited the café they went to in the past today was to retrieve this Polaroid photo.
A memory of us she doesn’t remember.
Min Hyuk, with a smirk, looked at his stiff expression in the photo.
Back then, he didn’t know she would lose her memory. The café in Yangyang was one she wanted to visit.
He remembered her saying she’d rather leave the photo at the café than keep it herself. “It feels better to leave it here. I’m not sure if we’ll come again, but if we do, I want to take it then. Until then, I’ll leave it with the café.”
He wondered what expression she would wear if she knew they were now married and dating.
There was no guarantee she would never regain her memory. When or how her memories might suddenly resurface was unpredictable.
It wasn’t strange for a forgotten but original memory to suddenly come back.
He opened the top drawer of his desk and placed the photo among the stack of documents.
He had decided to focus on the present and move forward into the future.

“Sometimes, I can’t help but wish to see you remembering the past.”
Even though he knew she wouldn’t look at him with affectionate eyes if she remembered.
Their relationship ended without resolving misunderstandings.
Min Hyuk closed the drawer after placing the photo inside.
He knew he couldn’t keep it a secret forever.
He cherished every moment with Da Hyun, loving and caring for her best he could, hoping she would know he was sincere even if she regained her memories later.
“Are you saying I’m misunderstanding, like you did with Chan?”
“I have no reason to explain my relationship with Chan to you. I never played games with you.”
“I never played games with you either.”
He still didn’t completely believe that she and Kim Chan were just friends. But unlike the past, Da Hyun was now his wife.

Whatever their past relationship, it was unlikely they would remain friends now.
As he spent time with her, his affection and happiness grew, but so did his anxiety.
What if she suddenly regained her memory? He feared she wouldn’t listen to his explanations and would coldly ask for a divorce.
He couldn’t bear to lose her, so he couldn’t reveal the truth.
Just a little longer.
He would indulge himself a little longer.
When the time came, he would reveal the past and clear up misunderstandings.
For now, he just wanted to spend time with her thoughtlessly.
Like they had walked side by side without worries today, he wanted to share everyday life.
Min Hyuk decided to worry about the future later.

To live fully in the present.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
