As time passed, the rain grew heavier and heavier.

Ra Hee Chae thought how foolish she was, standing there soaking in the rain and even entertaining the pathetic notion that maybe Jae Yoon would pity her.

Before she knew it, night had fallen. The lights in Jae Yoon’s house remained off, and he never showed up.

Ra Hee Chae, who had secretly hoped to run into Jae Yoon, now felt utterly drained.

She had always believed that whenever she called, Jae Yoon would come running—and that if she ever left him, he would still wait for her.

She thought the same this time, too. Even if he was angry now, she believed his anger wouldn’t last long—and that he’d surely miss her and come running back.

But that belief was nothing more than her own illusion. Jae Yoon turned away coldly, and now the only way left for her to see him was to wait endlessly in front of his house, not knowing when he might return.

Ra Hee Chae had stood so long her legs cramped up, and her body had reached its limit.

Though she briefly thought, “I’m unemployed anyway—might as well wait all night,” stubbornness flaring up, she soon gave up and turned to leave.

She’d cried so much already that maybe her tears had dried up—none would come now.

The thought of never seeing him again tore her heart apart. She felt unbearably lonely and desolate, as if no one remained by her side.

‘I’m all alone in this world. Why did I struggle so hard just to live like this?’

Ra Hee Chae couldn’t stand being ignored.

Raised under her grandmother’s care, she’d always worn hand-me-down, outdated clothes and lived in such crushing poverty that she constantly worried just about getting food each day.

No one paid her any attention, and she never had even a single ordinary friend.
