Only after the sun had completely set did Liana realize she had failed to complete the task Werner had assigned her.

After parting with Shade like that, she couldn’t have returned to his room to refill the water pitcher.

Trying to calm her swollen, red eyes, she bowed deeply before Werner.

“I’m sorry, Head Butler.”

As Liana lowered her head, Werner let out a deep sigh.

He said nothing, yet with just that exhale, Liana felt as though she had been flung into the mud.

Useless and pathetic. To fail even at such a small task.

She could almost hear the stinging rebuke in her ears.

“That’s enough for now. His Lordship retired early, seemingly in a foul mood.”

Recalling how particularly menacing Shade had appeared today, Werner waved his hand dismissively.

On a day like this, going to him uninvited would only make things worse.

“Tomorrow morning, bring water and towels. Leave the sheets as they are and just air out the room.”
