The sudden proposal froze love in a moment.
Marriage.
We had just started dating again, and now he was suggesting marriage.
It was the first proposal I had received from a man, but instead of feeling overwhelmed, my heart felt awkward.
“Are you drunk?”
“A little.”
“It seems like more than a little. Judging by the things you’re saying, you might not even remember them tomorrow.”
“If I remember, will you marry me?”
I couldn’t tell if it was a joke or sincerity.
His deep voice was serious, but his face, adorned with a bitter smile, carried a subtle mischievousness.
Love briefly gazed at the seriousness in his eyes, as if seeking an answer from my eyes.
I had thought about marrying him.
When we ate together, held hands while walking, or worked together in the office, I would occasionally imagine what it would be like to marry this man.
Honestly, just imagining it made my heart flutter.
But that time was not now.
Three years later? Or maybe five years?
After settling down at work, accumulating marriage funds, and addressing such practical issues… Wouldn’t marriage naturally become a topic of conversation?
I hadn’t expected to receive a proposal without any preparation like today.
“I don’t like it.”
It seemed like love’s response wasn’t to his liking, as he made a face that seemed like he might even pinch my cheek.
“I’ll get married after a long period of dating.”
“One year?”
“One year isn’t long.”
“Then two years?”
His forehead creased more and more, but love paid no attention.
“At least three years.”
“…Three years?”
“Five years would be even better.”
Although I wanted to say ten years, love seemed to find that a bit excessive and lowered the number.
Even so, his face had lost its smile without me realizing it.
Finding his serious attitude amusing, love wanted to tease him even more.
“I have a lot I want to do before getting married.”
“Do it after we get married.”
“No.”
“Why not? Where do you want to go?”
Dohan immediately took her to the bed.
For the next three years, there must be more than one or two things she wanted to do, so he wanted to listen comfortably.
Regardless of his intentions, love lying on the bed felt her heart fluttering.
Dohan extended his arm to her, and his face was right in front of hers.
The scent of alcohol and body wash strangely matched, stimulating her nose.
Love felt her heart race, especially today, feeling his lips were redder than usual.
“Kissing comes a little later.”
“What?”
Love was surprised.
Her gaze lingered on his moist-looking lips after taking a shower, but she revealed her feelings by accident.
“Let’s hear about what you want to do before marriage.”
“W-Who says that.”
Blushing in embarrassment, Love’s face was so cute that Dohan burst into laughter.
The impulse to swallow those lips, which moved subtly, wriggled, but she decided to endure it a little longer.
Now she was more curious about this love’s thoughts.
Clearing her throat, Love calmed her emotions while smoothing her neck.
Returning to the previous conversation, she began recalling things she wanted to do while dating Dohan.
“I want to go on a trip.”
“Let’s go tomorrow.”
Upon her immediate response, she rolled her eyes.
Understanding the silent request to listen quietly, Dohan encouraged her to continue.
“In spring, I want to see Forsythia; in summer, Sunflowers; in autumn, Chrysanthemums; and in winter, Korean Forsythia. I want to go see flowers each season. I like the color yellow.”
“But isn’t Korean Forsythia supposed to bloom in spring?”
“I thought so too, but it bloomed in January as well. It looks beautiful when white snow falls on yellow Korean Forsythia flowers.”
Suppressing the urge to say that she would be more beautiful, Dohan focused on her next story.
“I want to travel around, finding good restaurants, visiting amusement parks. We never properly enjoyed ourselves when we went to the amusement park during the nighttime opening before.”
“That’s something you can do even after marriage.”
When he blurted out what was on his mind, Love’s gaze turned fierce.
“I want to do it with my boyfriend, not my husband. Not after marriage, but while dating!”
“Fine, let’s say that’s the case. What else do you want to do?”
Dohan pulled her closer, signaling that he wouldn’t interrupt her anymore.
Regardless of what it was, he wanted to hear it quickly and taste her sweet lips.
“I want to drink alcohol together.”
They had already drunk today and during work dinners.
However, since he promised not to interfere, Dohan remained silent.
“I want to get drunk, ask you to carry me, and if I throw up, ask you to pat my back.”
“Do you really want to do that?”
Dohan, who had been quietly listening, furrowed his eyebrows.
Even though she might be cute even with such behavior, his reaction seemed unexpected.
“How can I show only the good side of myself while dating?”
After seeing everything, would she think I’m good, and then, would she want to get married?
For Love, marriage was a distant future.
“Okay. Do everything you want.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
