“I like you, Oppa.”
Sa Rang impulsively confessed her feelings.
They had simply come to the amusement park to do an assignment with Do Han, but somehow it had come to this.
Maybe it was because of the fancy fireworks that lit up the pitchblack night sky.
The fireworks seemed to pound in her chest, telling her it was time to stop her onesided love and confess already.
When the largest firework went off with a bang, her feelings finally poured out.
However, since it was a onesided love, the response from the other person was already determined.
“Like someone else, like Jeong Yun Jae. You two look good together.”
Do Han looked at Sa Rang’s tense face with an indifferent gaze.
She was a junior whom he had never treated kindly, nor even called by her name once.
By chance, they ended up in the same group for a general education subject, and occasionally met to work on assignments.
By chance, their friends started dating, so they sometimes ate together.

And so, at some point, this girl had crept into his heart.
A spark ignited in Do Han’s heart at her confession that she liked him.
However, only cold words flowed from his mouth.
She should meet a guy who can call her name tenderly.
Do Han was convinced that rejecting Sa Rang’s feelings was the only way to do right by her.
Sa Rang seemed to have been expecting it and nodded calmly.
“I understand.”
She had never thought that he would accept her feelings in the first place.
Since it had been impulsive from the start, there were no expectations.
She confessed without lingering feelings, and was rejected outright, so now all she had to do was forget him.
But Sa Rang felt like she couldn’t do that.

The way he told her to like someone else was too tender, and it seemed like today’s confession was not the end, but another beginning.
Just like the moment she first fell for him, which had been terribly complicated.
Two months ago.
“Sa Rang!”
Sa Rang turned her head at the sound of her name being called.
She could see Ji Woo’s figure in the distance across the bustling square in front of the library.
It was a noisy and hectic day, as three colleges were holding their freshman orientations together.
Soon Ji Woo came running with a wave.
“I’m even more glad to see you here, Ji Woo.”
Even though they had only been apart for a week, they hugged each other like family reunited after a year, jumping around excitedly.
The two of them, who had been best friends since elementary school, had been accepted to the same university, and they had even secured a oneroom apartment to live together, showing their close bond.
It would have been nice if they could have taken the bus together from their provincial homes, but since Ji Woo was staying at a relative’s house in Seoul, they had agreed to meet there.

“I thought I would be the first one here. You found your way okay?”
“Of course. Do you think I’m a baby?”
“You’re such a baby. Look at yourself. Among all the female students here, are you the only one not wearing makeup?”
At Ji Woo’s reproach, Sa Rang looked around.
“You look like a high school student to anyone.”
“Why are they all dressed up so nicely?”
Sa Rang, who had dressed comfortably and even worn a hat because she had to take a long bus ride, looked displeased.
She hadn’t paid attention to her appearance because she had been in a rush to get to Seoul from the countryside since dawn.
“I’ll do your makeup tomorrow. I can’t make you have a bob cut, but at least if you wear makeup, it will look a bit better.”
“No, thanks. It feels weird.”
She had tried makeup, but no matter how she looked at it, it didn’t suit her.
It was not worth the time she put into it, nor did it make her look prettier.
“You’re such an innocent Sa Rang.”
“You’d think you’re my older sister. If I’m innocent, you’re innocent too.”
Sa Rang stuck out her tongue.
Ji Woo, who was a freshman like her but acted like an adult, was getting on her nerves.
“This unnie has at least had a boyfriend. If you haven’t dated, you’re innocent.”
“Then I won’t be innocent for much longer. I’ll start by getting a boyfriend when the semester starts.”
“Did you come to college to date?”
“Of course. Why do you think I studied so hard? They said that if I go to college, I could date a cool boyfriend, so I studied like crazy.”
“Who said that?”
“Our homeroom teacher.”
Ji Woo chuckled and shook her head.
“That’s why you’re innocent. My cousin didn’t date even once until she graduated from college. Going to college doesn’t mean everyone gets a boyfriend, let alone a cool one. You’re such an innocent friend. Where should I start teaching you?”
So it happened that Sa Rang’s parents firmly held my hand and earnestly requested, “Please take good care of our daughter.”

At that moment, I felt what it would be like to become a soninlaw.
Despite my friend’s innocence of the world, I had a surplus of understanding of Sa Rang’s parents’ feelings.
“Wait and see. I will get a cool boyfriend and introduce him to you.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
