Kang Woo opened the file. Contrary to his expectations, the contents were sparse—just two A4 pages.

Director Lee’s only family was his mother. His father had already passed away. His sole asset was a roughly 30-pyeong apartment in Sadang, where he lived with his mother. There was nothing else notable in his personal information either.

Kang Woo’s normally composed brow furrowed.

“Is this all?”

“I’ve only received the basic personal information for now. According to sources, even if someone tailed him all day, Black’s movements are brief and straightforward—no personal life at all, just shuttling between home, the National Assembly, and following the congressman. Ah, though there is one potentially useful piece of information: he visits his mother, who’s undergoing cancer treatment, twice a month in the VVIP ward at Hansung University Hospital.”

As promised, Secretary Choi had explicitly identified Director Lee as Black. Though her tone was precise and articulate, her voice remained low. No one else could possibly overhear their private conversation inside the office—but in this world, absolute secrecy didn’t exist.

“His mother’s battling cancer, yet he only visits twice a month? And he doesn’t even have other family members.”

“He’s extremely busy, for one. There might also be hidden reasons behind it.”

“It’s too plain. Makes me even more suspicious.”

“Exactly. I feel the same… No matter how loyal he is to the congressman, it’s hard to believe he truly has *no* private life at all… According to the informant, although he doesn’t visit the hospital often, his relationship with his mother seems good. His mother reportedly brags endlessly about her son to the nurses—claiming he graduated from Korea’s top university and became a prosecutor two years ago.”

“A prosecutor?”

Kang Woo asked in surprise and scanned the documents again with his eyes. Though he had graduated from Seoul University’s law school six years ago, there was no record of him passing the bar exam. If he’d even passed the bar, he wouldn’t still be stuck as a legislative aide.

“Yes. His mother also seems unaware of the full details—she just naively trusts whatever her son says.”

“The more I hear, the fishier it gets.”

Frowning deeply, Kang Woo sank into thought.
