Opening the trunk, Yoo Gun was reminded of Eun Hye when he saw the child’s miniature car adorned with a large ribbon. She had been smiling brightly all along while picking out a toy, then suddenly turned serious and asked,

“I have one thing I’d like to ask.”

“Yes?”

“When did you first recognize me?”

Looking at Eun Hye’s unusually solemn expression, Yoo Gun briefly considered making up an excuse. But he quickly decided there was no need for pretense—let alone a lie—and gave a straightforward answer.

“When I came to visit Yoo Ra.”

“So that means it was several years ago.”

“That’s right.”

Eun Hye tilted her head slightly, as if lost in thought, then met his eyes again and asked,

“You’ve been pretending not to know me all this time—why did you acknowledge me today?”

Yoo Gun hadn’t acknowledged her before because he assumed she didn’t remember him.

He figured it would feel awkward for her to meet a college senior she didn’t even recall, especially as a superior’s family member. He’d also hoped they could exchange greetings on more relaxed, friendly terms.

But running into her in such an unexpected place had simply made him want to help.

“I already told you—I saw you were in a difficult spot, so I wanted to help. Plus, I happened to have a favor to ask.”

Eun Hye nodded slowly, then spoke firmly, as if she’d received a clear answer.
