A Light Contract (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 67
Stepping out onto the beach in front of the hotel, Yura took in the sight of waves cradling the sunset, crashing into golden fragments. Perhaps because of the exotic atmosphere—or maybe the turmoil in her heart—it felt especially regretful today to walk alone along this beautiful shore.
She had come to Australia before too, over a contract issue, but the mood was different this time.
Couples busily snapping photos against the backdrop of the sunset-lit sea stood out to her more than usual. Though she hadn’t come for vacation but for work, her mind was completely filled with thoughts of Lee Hyun.
Suddenly missing him, yearning to hear his voice, Yura dialed his number.
“Did you rest well?”
Hearing his sweet voice through the phone, Yura’s lips instinctively curved into a smile. Soon, like a petulant child, she poured out her complaints about Baek Jin Ho in a tone full of affectionate grievance.
Lee Hyun listened silently to her chattering voice. Even her words revealing distress and sadness sounded to him as melodious as birdsong.
Though they’d been apart for just a single day, it already felt as distant as a week.
He’d pushed aside his desire to hear her steady breathing as she slept peacefully, burying it under work instead. Part of him wondered if he should’ve accompanied her—but he also quietly praised himself for staying put.
Removing the things that made her uncomfortable mattered more than indulging his own intense longing for her. If he could, he’d uproot every last sprout so thoroughly it would never dare show its head again—most cruelly and most threateningly of all.
Yet even that urge, he suppressed—for Yura’s sake. Just as he’d ultimately swallowed the brutality of wanting to break every finger of Oh Se Jin’s so he’d never play piano again.
Listening to Yura grumble about Baek Jin Ho’s absurdity, Lee Hyun shook off his reverie and smiled gently.
“So?”
“I just came out to the beach.”
Checking his wristwatch, Lee Hyun frowned slightly. It would be night soon—why was she alone at the beach? Worry came first.
