Yura’s body staggered from the sharp, ear-piercing friction. Before she could even grasp what was happening, a shrill voice rang out like tinnitus. Yoo Gun stepped in front of Yura and shouted.

“Father!”

“How dare a girl like you appear in the news like this! How am I supposed to show my face to our in-laws!”

Yura covered her stinging cheek with the back of her hand. She’d never imagined being slapped by someone could feel so humiliating.

Since joining Songrim, she’d met countless eccentric people, but never anyone like Kang Soo—someone who’d so casually resort to violence. How could someone of such high social standing, who always prided himself on his refinement, act so brutishly?

It filled Yura with profound shame that this man was her father. She was suddenly grateful Baek Lee Hyun wasn’t present.

Brushing past Yoo Gun, who stood blocking her way, Yura coldly retorted,

“It’s a false report.”

“Nonsense! Smoke doesn’t rise from a chimney without fire!”

That single remark from her father struck her harder than the slap itself. Yoo Gun, too, seemed shaken—he raised his voice toward his father once more.

“Father, you’re going too far.”

“You still say that when there’s a clear article about your own sister?”

Yet Kang Soo remained unmoved. Should she have realized it the moment he laid hands on her?

Yura simply couldn’t comprehend how a father could so readily accept his daughter’s scandal as fact and brand her a disgraceful adulteress. Wasn’t it a parent’s duty, no matter the circumstances, to believe in their child’s innocence? At the very least, shouldn’t they hear her side first?
