Levanfel, drawing closer, looked at me tightly gripping the cushion as if I were about to throw it and asked,

“Could it be that I’ve made you angry?”

“…No.”

“Then why does it feel as though you’re about to strike me with that cushion any moment now?”

Cheeky, observant fellow.

I bit my lip and slowly released the cushion I’d been clutching tightly. Mew slipped out through the narrow gap of the open door, leaving us space to talk.

Levanfel gave a fleeting smile, approached, and gently took my hand.

“Let me see. What exactly did I do wrong to upset the Empress?”

“…Why are you holding my hand?”

“Because holding my hand seems better than squeezing a cushion to calm your anger.”

Levanfel murmured briefly and interlaced his fingers with mine. Strangely enough, once our fingers were firmly locked together, I truly did feel calmer.

I muttered in wonder, gazing at our entwined hands. Levanfel smiled pleasantly and pulled me onto the bed beside him.

“It’s less a method passed down through the imperial family and more a traditional approach. Are you ready to tell me now why you were angry? I honestly can’t recall doing anything wrong today.”

Because I realized people have been kind to me only due to the sacred power I possess… I didn’t want to say that.
