Taking a deep breath in Levanfel’s arms, I was overwhelmed by his long-missed scent. He held me tightly as if still unable to believe it, murmuring, “How? How on earth…?”

“I remember everything.”

I spoke the words I’d longed to say, hoping to reassure Levanfel. He released me slightly and looked into my eyes.

“Levanfel. The first time I used my divine power on you wasn’t on our wedding night… but on the day we first met in the annex.”

His pupils trembled. Seeing me remember everything, Levanfel wore a dreamy, hazy expression, as if lost in a dream.

“I’m so sorry it took me so long. Sorry for remembering you so late, for making you wait all alone.”

I reached out toward his face. When my fingers touched his skin, still chilled by the cold air, Levanfel slowly closed his eyes.

Gently, I traced the face I’d missed so dearly. Over his adult features overlapped the image of little Levanfel, pouting and fussy.

“I wanted to be the first to tell you this time—before you had to wait for me again—that I remembered you first. Levanfel… you waited for me again.”

“Of course. Didn’t I say I would?”

Levanfel softly caught my hand as it brushed his cheek and briefly pressed a kiss to my palm, like a solemn vow.

“I’ve never once forgotten you.”

Levanfel never spoke idly—his words had always been sincere. I nodded, wiping away my tears with a small sniffle.

“So that’s why you created my story and had the murals carved?”
