A Beastly Boss (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
Me on a date with Mr. Ok?
“A date… you want to go on one?”
A date meant meeting up and spending romantic time together.
So, beyond attending gatherings and visiting Grandmother, he was suggesting they spend even more time together.
At Seul Hee’s question, he turned his body and raised an eyebrow.
“At the very least, we’ll need one or two photos of us hanging out together, won’t we?”
“Oh.”
Only then did she realize his intention was purely to fool people, and she nodded.
“People will also be curious about your relationship.”
For a moment, his words had sounded as though he genuinely wanted to go on a date with her, making her flustered—but it had just been a misunderstanding.
Right. If friends asked to see photos and the only ones they had were taken at the hospital, everyone—including Grandmother—would get suspicious.
“Let’s go on dates every weekend until we visit her.”
She understood why it was necessary, but every single weekend?
“Do we really have to?”
“Yes.”
Eun Woo’s reply was curt. His expression left no room for alternatives.
“And every week?”
“We have to. We don’t have much time.”
“But then it’ll seem like…”
Like we’re really dating.
She almost said it aloud, but met Eun Woo’s resolute gaze—his face clearly saying it was only natural.
She didn’t have the courage to argue with him.
★★★
It had been a long day.
Eun Woo stepped out of the bathroom, shaking his hair dry. Droplets rolled down his firm shoulders and pooled over muscles honed by exercise.
“Haaah.”
He took a deep breath and opened the fridge. Though neatly organized ingredients filled the shelves, nothing appealed to him. Despite it being before dinner, he had no appetite. So he chose a cold beer instead.
Clack.
He popped open the can and downed the beer in one go.
With every swallow, his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. Only after the cool liquid slid inside and the sharp fizz tingled his throat did his overheated mind finally cool down.
“Haa…”
His thoughts cleared only after a long exhale.
“Yoo Seul Hee.”
He murmured the name of the woman who’d unsettled him all day.
It had been a few months since she started working at Dolmae Animal Hospital. Seul Hee, unpredictable as ever, had kept him constantly on edge—and lately, even more so.
Eun Woo, who usually had little interest in women—or in other people in general—was different with her. That tiny woman had stormed right into his mind and turned everything upside down.
He remembered her raising her round eyes to look at him with complete trust and not a trace of suspicion.
A quiet chuckle escaped him. Just seeing her believe so wholeheartedly that he was purely her grandson, caring only for Grandmother and harboring no ulterior motives…
Even after drinking, his mouth still felt dry.
Gulp, gulp.
After finishing the beer, Eun Woo picked up his phone and searched for “Lee Jin Ho.” He pressed call, and before the ring even sounded twice, a voice answered.
—Hey, Ok Eun Woo. What’s up?
Jin Ho was Eun Woo’s longtime friend. They hadn’t spoken much lately due to busy schedules at the clinic, so Jin Ho’s voice was especially cheerful.
Eun Woo crumpled the empty can and tossed it toward a distant trash bin before speaking.
“I need a favor.”
—A favor? From you? Not me doing you a favor, but you asking me?
At Jin Ho’s exaggerated surprise, Eun Woo twisted the corner of his mouth.
—Wow, what’s going on? Is the sun rising in the west tomorrow?
If this was how Jin Ho reacted even before hearing the request, Eun Woo dreaded how he’d behave afterward.
He let out a sigh-like breath.

“Yes, I have a favor to ask you.”
—What is it? If Dr. Ok Eun Woo is asking, I’ll do anything I can! What is it, tell me!
“Can you let me into the clinic this Friday after closing hours?”
—Why all of a sudden?
“…”
—Usually I invite you, and you never come. Is there something you want to see?
“It’s not that I want to see something. I want to show someone something.”
—Huh?
A brief silence followed Eun Woo’s words.
Jin Ho, clearly stunned by the unexpected request, breathed loudly for a while without saying anything. After a long pause, he finally recovered from his shock and whispered quietly.
—Don’t tell me… it’s a girl?
It was going to get noisy.
But since he’d see Jin Ho anyway on Friday, it was better to let him freak out over the phone now. Though it’d be tough to hear, it was still preferable to watching him blurt something ridiculous in front of Seul Hee.
“Yes.”
—A girl? A real girl? Not just a client or something—it’s an actual date with a real woman?
“…That’s what I said.”
—Seriously, seriously?
Unable to tolerate Jin Ho’s excited blabbering, Eun Woo furrowed his brows and let out an exasperated sigh.
“Maybe I shouldn’t even go.”
—Huh?
“If you’re going to act like this even after I get there, it’d be better not to go at all.”
—Ah, no! I just…
Jin Ho stretched out his words before quickly adding,
—No, please come! For real, please come, Dr. Ok Eun Woo! You asking me for a favor? That probably happens once in a lifetime! And it’s for a girl? Wow!
Eun Woo had expected this reaction, but Jin Ho was being even more dramatic than he’d imagined, deepening the crease between his brows.
“Haa…”
—I won’t act like that that day.
“I’ll be there by eight.”
—Good, you better come. I’ll be waiting, Eun Woo. Waiting for Ok Eun Woo!
Eun Woo ended the call and tossed his phone across the room. He felt excited about Friday night—but also uneasy about Jin Ho’s reaction. Why?
★★★
Eun Woo’s call had come out of the blue.
It was the same night he’d dropped Seul Hee off at home—just after she’d walked in, her phone rang.
—rrrrr
[Dr. Ok Eun Woo]Seeing his name on the screen, Seul Hee tensed up immediately. It was their first phone call.
She pressed answer, and a low voice filled her ears.
—It’s Ok Eun Woo.
“Oh! Yes, Teacher.”
—Sorry to bother you suddenly, but are you free this Friday after work?
“Ah…”
—It’s about what we discussed earlier.
‘What we discussed’—
“Yes, I’m free. But… u-um, um, um…”
The word “date” wasn’t difficult, yet her voice trembled uncontrollably.
—Yes, a date. Why is the word ‘date’ so hard for you?
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
Though he couldn’t see her, Seul Hee instinctively bowed her head in apology.
“It’s fine. Friday works.”
—Then I’ll count on it.

As he moved to hang up, Seul Hee quickly spoke.
“T-Teacher?”
—Yes?
“What should I wear that day?”
Suddenly, she remembered the first time he’d taken her to a restaurant. Back then, after work, he’d brought her to an upscale place, and she’d stood out awkwardly in her too-casual outfit.
—Clothes? Just wear what you normally do.
“But I don’t want to look weird again like last time. At least tell me where we’re going. I doubt Mr. Ok wants to be seen with someone who looks like a mess.”
—Ah.
A brief silence passed. She even thought she heard a soft chuckle from the other end.
—Don’t worry. You’ll look pretty no matter what you wear.
“…Huh?”
Had she heard wrong? Seul Hee blinked. But his tone had sounded playfully genuine.
Did Mr. Ok just say I’m pretty? Did Mr. Ok just tease me?
She still couldn’t believe the low voice echoing in her ears.
—Then sleep well.
Before she could reply, the call ended with a soft click. She stared blankly at her phone for a while and couldn’t fall asleep easily that night.
★★★
What kind of expression had Mr. Ok worn when he’d said that?
She couldn’t tell if it was a joke or serious.
He’d said she’d look pretty in anything, yet Seul Hee had no idea what to wear. It only made her thoughts more tangled.
She had to wear something suitable for the hospital—nothing too flashy, but also not too sloppy based on last time’s experience.
After waking at 6 a.m. and agonizing for a long while, she finally chose a neat navy dress.
“Oh my, Ms. Seul Hee.”
After changing in the locker room post-shift, Chae Rin—one of the veterinary technicians—poked her head out just as she was closing her locker.
“What’s the occasion? You look gorgeous! Do you have a date with your boyfriend today?”
“A date?”
The familiar yet foreign word made Seul Hee jump.
“No, no no! Absolutely not a date! I broke up with my boyfriend.”
“Oh.”
Had she denied it too forcefully? Chae Rin’s face flushed with apology.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
“No, it’s fine. I’m just… just meeting a friend today.”
She and Chae Rin were close enough to chat occasionally. Worried Chae Rin might probe further, Seul Hee quickly bowed her head and said goodbye.
“Have a great weekend!”
She dashed out of the hospital and ran all the way to the nearby parking lot.
Tonight was finally the night of their “date.” It wasn’t her first date ever, and she certainly didn’t have genuine feelings for him—yet her mouth went dry and her nerves frayed uncontrollably. She couldn’t even recall how she’d managed to work all day.
Whenever her fingertips accidentally brushed against Eun Woo’s, she’d leap back as if scalded, scrambling toward the wall.
But absolutely no one at the hospital could find out. Just one month—exactly one month. After showing their fake relationship to friends, Chan Jeong, and his grandmother, it would all be over.
But if her coworkers found out?
No, that couldn’t happen. Seul Hee had already been through an office romance before. She couldn’t endure that pain again—not for something that wasn’t even real.
Wasn’t her maternal uncle the director of Dolmae Animal Hospital? If false rumors of their relationship reached his ears, it would only be a matter of time before her parents found out.
What would happen if Mom found out?
“No, that must never happen.”
She absolutely could not get caught. That’s why she and Eun Woo had agreed to meet a short five-minute walk from the hospital, somewhere out of others’ sight.
When she arrived at the agreed spot, her eyes landed on a tall man leaning casually against a car.
A cool breeze blew, fluttering the hem of his coat and revealing his long legs, slightly crossed. His bright eyes sparkled as he gazed off into the distance.
Though the street was quiet, every passerby—man or woman—couldn’t help but cast a glance at the strikingly handsome man standing alone.
Ugh, no. Of course.
If anyone found out she was in a fake relationship with that man, the whole world would erupt in chaos.

“We’re here.”
Eun Woo pulled into a parking spot and shifted into park.
After a simple dinner, they’d arrived at the staff parking lot of a famous theme park on the outskirts of Seoul.
[Wonderful Land]Seul Hee had visited here once in high school for a school trip.
The park closed at 8 p.m. tonight. True enough, the usually dazzling signs were now completely dark.
“Here? It looks closed.”
“I know someone here. There’s something I want to show you.”
Eun Woo stepped out of the car and walked around to her side. Without a word, he opened her door and held out his hand.
“Here.”
Huh? What was she supposed to do?
Confused, Seul Hee simply stared at his large hand—until he wiggled his fingers slightly.
“Hold on. It’s dark.”
Before she realized it, she’d taken his hand.
“Teacher?”
Why was he holding her hand all of a sudden?
When she looked down in surprise, he whispered softly,
“Let’s start with holding hands.”
“…”
“Between us.”
Without hesitation, his firm fingers slipped smoothly between hers.
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
