A Beastly Boss (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 4
Seul Hee blinked at the sight of Eun Woo—someone she’d never seen before.
Ok Eun Woo. At work, he was a cool-headed superior.
Infinitely kind and gentle with pet owners, yet rational and icy in front of Seul Hee. But now, he looked ready to explode. With clenched teeth, Eun Woo growled in a low voice,
“Get lost.”
Chan Jeong pushed himself up from the floor.
“I said get lost!”
When Eun Woo shouted loudly, Chan Jeong stood up and stumbled backward. Glaring fiercely, Eun Woo’s overwhelming presence sent Chan Jeong spinning around and bolting away. He muttered something unintelligible, but he no longer mattered to Eun Woo.
Eun Woo turned and looked at Seul Hee, who still stood trembling like a startled rabbit. Gently grasping her trembling shoulders with both hands, he looked into her eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“Huh? Yes.”
“Really? Are you sure you’re alright?”
His gaze dropped to her hands.
She’d said she was fine, but perhaps it wasn’t true.
Her hands were shaking uncontrollably.
Even though it was spring and not at all cold.
As Seul Hee stared blankly at her trembling hands, Eun Woo reached out and took them in his.
“You don’t look okay.”
His warm hand touched her icy fingertips, sending a rush of heat through her. Her trembling intensified until her whole body vibrated.
Slowly, tears welled up in her eyes.
Just as Eun Woo hadn’t acted like himself today, neither had Seul Hee.
She disliked Ok Eun Woo.
No—not disliked, exactly. More like… intimidated. He was a man whose everything was perfect and neat.
Because he expected that same perfection from Seul Hee, she always tensed up in his presence.
But right now, she was glad he was here. She didn’t know what she would’ve done otherwise. Without thinking, she tightened her grip on his hand.
“Huhh…”
“…It’s okay to cry.”
Though stiff and awkward, his voice carried warmth—and tears spilled from Seul Hee’s eyes.
Unaware of her own shyness, she clung to his hand like a lifeline and cried and cried.
“We’ve arrived.”
She’d cried in front of Mr. Ok.
What on earth had she been thinking earlier?
During the drive home, Eun Woo hadn’t said a word, and Seul Hee couldn’t bring herself to look toward the driver’s seat—she just stared out the window.
She’d witnessed her boyfriend Chan Jeong cheating, a shocking sight—but strangely, what bothered her more was having held Eun Woo’s hand and sobbed into it.
She absentmindedly fidgeted with her fingers resting on her lap.
She must be crazy, really—gripping his hand so tightly.
He was just a coworker, after all.
When Eun Woo announced they’d arrived but Seul Hee gave no response, he asked,
“Ms. Yoo Seul Hee?”
“Huh? Ah—yes. Thank you for driving me all the way home.”
“Are you really going to be okay?”
“…Yes, I’m fine—thanks to you.”
A flush spread from her cheeks down to her neck. Eun Woo’s eyes fell on her reddened nape.
“Well then.”
Eun Woo added nothing more.
Even though he probably had a rough idea of what had happened, he didn’t press for details—just comforted Seul Hee gently.
“Get plenty of rest once you’re inside today.”
“Yes, I will.”
Just as Seul Hee reached for the door to step out, Eun Woo caught her wrist. His hand wrapped softly around hers, warmth flowing into her chilled body.
“Oh, by the way.”
“Yes?”

“My offer still stands. Think it over.”
His offer.
“Looks like we should start dating.”
He gave a slight smile—his lips curling up in a way that made her dizzy. It was the second time he’d smiled today.
Embarrassingly enough, she forgot everything that had happened and her heart dropped at the sight of his bright smile.
The moment she opened the front door and stepped inside, her mom’s sharp voice rang out.
“Hey! Yoo Seul Hee!”
“I’m home…”
“Why didn’t you call and came home past dinner time?”
Her mom emerged from the kitchen, holding chopsticks in one hand. Her face was flushed with anger, but Seul Hee didn’t have the energy to deal with her right now.
All she wanted was to lie down in her room and sort through her thoughts.
Today had been too much.
1. Her boyfriend Chan Jeong had cheated on her.
2. And the other person happened to be Team Leader Lee Do Young—the one she despised most in the world.
3. And Mr. Ok had just asked her out.
“What could Mr. Ok possibly be thinking? Even if his grandmother is seriously ill—could he really be that desperate?”
As Seul Hee muttered this aloud, her mom quickly grabbed her arm.
“Hey, Seul Hee! Why aren’t you answering? I was so hungry waiting for you that we already ate. Did you eat already?”
She just nodded.
“If you ate, you should’ve said so! What did you have?”
“A steak…”
A perfectly cooked medium-rare steak.
Slightly pink juices glistened inside, topped with a sauce made from mango and fifteen-year-old vinegar. Normally, she would’ve devoured it happily.
But the man sitting across from her had left her too rattled to focus.
“Ms. Yoo Seul Hee, let’s date.”
His crimson lips, murmuring softly; his gently arched eyebrows—floated back into her mind. Lost again in the memory, Seul Hee stood there with her mouth half-open and dazed expression until her mom shook her.
“What’s gotten into you? You look completely spaced out!”
“No, it’s nothing. I’m just tired. I’ll go wash up and sleep.”
“It’s not ‘nothing’! And you had steak for dinner? Did you eat it with Chan Jeong?”
“No.”
“Then who? Another guy? Are you dating someone else?”
Her mom’s outburst made Seul Hee jump.
“D-dating? Mom, why would you even say that?”
“I’m just saying—you come home late without notice after eating fancy food. Why get so upset?”
Maybe it hit too close to home,
because she’d overreacted. Her mom tilted her head, puzzled. Seul Hee rushed into her room, slammed the door shut, and took deep breaths.
It was a night she wanted to spend alone.
“Ugh, Mr. Ok… Why are you haunting even my dreams?”
Monday, 6 a.m. Seul Hee dragged herself up at the sound of her blaring phone alarm. Her eyes wouldn’t open properly, but she had to get up. She’d spent all of Saturday and Sunday lying awake with her mind in turmoil—eyes shut but no real sleep.
All day Saturday, Chan Jeong had bombarded her with calls and texts. At night, she’d dreamt of Eun Woo chasing her in dragon form, breathing fire.
Her waking hours were consumed by Chan Jeong, and her sleep haunted by Eun Woo—her whole weekend had been a mess.
She didn’t even feel rested. She just wanted one more day off.
Rubbing her dry eyes, she sighed—but eventually forced herself out of the warm, soft comfort of her bed.
If she’s late, Mr. Ok won’t let her hear the end of it.
Isn’t that just life for office workers in Korea—show up to work even if heartbroken, sick, or if war breaks out? She barely steadied her wobbly legs and shuffled toward the bathroom.
After quitting her previous job, she’d spent three months unemployed, bedridden with despair. Suddenly starting work at an animal hospital had been mentally and physically exhausting.
It was already her third month—it was about time she got used to it.
While showering and changing clothes, she recited the rules Mr. Ok had set, and carefully reviewed the notes compiled by other technicians.
She had to read them every morning so she wouldn’t forget.
If she messed up again, she’d surely be forced to shout slogans loud enough to shake the whole clinic.

No—last week, he’d been strangely gentle. Too kind to be the man she thought she knew.
Whether that was good or bad, she wasn’t sure.
“Sigh…”
Pressing her temples, she stepped out of her room. The rest of the family was still asleep.
“What am I even doing, starting this at seven in the morning?”
Muttering to herself, she dashed out the front door.
She arrived at the hospital at 7:50 a.m. Staff usually started work at 8:30.
She wasn’t late—and today, she’d be first. Probably the very first!
Smiling to herself, Seul Hee approached the entrance—only to see a human figure already inside.
Broad shoulders, straight back. Muscular from exercise, clad in a white coat.
His firm lips gleamed red.
“Oh no.”
It was Mr. Ok. The moment she recognized him, her heart skipped.
What time did this guy even arrive at the hospital?
She stole a quick glance at his face.
Was she the only one awkward about what happened? He looked just as usual.
Unlike Seul Hee—whose eyes were swollen from lack of sleep—he wore flawless features that were almost infuriatingly perfect. His porcelain skin showed not a single pore, and a faint dimple appeared on his cheek despite standing close enough to touch.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning, Ms. Seul Hee.”
He gave a slight nod and offered a tiny upward quirk of his lips.
It was clearly the same Mr. Ok—but today, he seemed somehow different. Normally, she’d just think “handsome” and move on, but today his face looked brighter, more radiant. Every time his eyes met hers, something stirred uncomfortably in her chest.
“Let’s date. My offer still stands. Think it over.”
Was it because his low voice from that night echoed again in her ears?
Enough already. Stop thinking about Mr. Ok.
At this rate, she wouldn’t get any work done. Seul Hee shook her head vigorously and gave a quick bow.
“Why were you staring like that?”
“It’s nothing. Mr. Ok, I’ll go change and feed the hospitalized dogs now.”
She scurried off toward the changing room. Once inside, she shut the door and sighed deeply.
“This really isn’t the time to be thinking about Mr. Ok.”
Yet as she muttered this to herself, her reflection in the mirror blushed pink.
After changing, she entered the hospitalization ward. The moment she opened the door, Tong Yi—the clinic’s resident dog—came bounding out to greet her.
“Tong Yi! Did you sleep well?”
Tong Yi, a golden retriever, wagged his tail enthusiastically at the sight of her.
Friendly by nature, he’d taken a liking to her since her very first day at the clinic.
She reached out and stroked his head. His soft brown fur slipped smoothly between her fingers.
The more she worked, the more she grew to love animals.
After petting Tong Yi for a while, she stood up to feed the hospitalized dogs. But just as she half-rose to her feet, her vision turned white.
“Oh!”
Her legs suddenly gave out, and she staggered. She quickly pressed a hand against the wall and gasped for air.
Am I low on sugar? I should’ve eaten before leaving…
The room spun around her.
Thunder roared in her stomach, and dizziness made her feel like collapsing with even one step.
As she swayed toward the exit, a familiar voice called out from behind.
“Ms. Yoo Seul Hee.”
“Yes?”
She turned abruptly—Mr. Ok stood at the entrance of the ward, leaning slightly to the side, looking displeased as he watched her.
“Are you feeling unwell?”
“I’m fine. Ah—it’s nothing.”
At her reply, Mr. Ok twisted the corner of his mouth in disbelief.
“It’s definitely not ‘nothing.’”

He leaned suddenly close—too close. Their faces were less than a hand’s width apart. Seul Hee swallowed hard without realizing it.
“Did you eat?”
“No… I didn’t.”
She almost lied but quickly gave up and answered honestly. Mr. Ok was uncannily perceptive—his instincts were too sharp for her to get away with a fib.
“Hah.”
At her admission, Eun Woo let out a deep sigh.
It was so long it brushed against Seul Hee’s cheek right in front of him.
Whenever he sighed like that, a lecture always followed. Bracing herself for his scolding, she squeezed her eyes shut.
In that moment, something touched her lips.
Something soft.
What is this?
When the male lead is punished by carrying the female lead’s child and having periods like a woman
“I’ve given birth to two children for you, yet you still think about him.
Was I nothing but his substitute to you from beginning to end?”
