A Beastly Boss (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 15
“An injury?”
What kind of injury was he talking about? Just as I was about to ask for clarification because his words didn’t make sense, another staff member entered from behind. The employee who came in through the door looked at Eun Woo and Seul Hee and spoke.
“Sorry to interrupt your break, but Deputy Director Choi asked us to hold a quick meeting about Gom Gom—can everyone gather for a moment?”
I nodded. What could this be about? I put Gom Gom back into his cage and stood up from my seat.
“Gom Gom… what should we do?”
During the staff meeting, everyone sighed at Deputy Director Ms. Choi’s words.
“Right?”
“It’s been over ten days since he was left here and no one’s come for him—so I guess he was abandoned?”
Why would anyone abandon him? He’s so cute. Ever since Gom Gom recovered and became healthy, he’s been happily bouncing around the clinic, his short, wobbly legs impossibly adorable.
“He’s so cute—why on earth would someone dump him?”
At Seul Hee’s words, Ms. Choi let out a sigh.
“There are all sorts of reasons people abandon dogs. I’ve even seen people dump them just because they grew bigger than expected.”
“Gom Gom is a classic case—abandoned because he got sick.”
“But Gom Gom only had early-stage disc disease—he’s almost fully recovered! It’s not even a life-threatening illness.”
“Maybe they didn’t want the ongoing care, or perhaps they just used his illness as an excuse to drop him off here from the start. Either way… what should we do?”
At Ms. Choi’s question, Mr. Ok furrowed his brow and spoke.
“We should send him to the stray animal shelter.”
“Post notices at the shelter and…”
The Director, who had stayed silent until now, finally spoke.
“How about we try finding him a new owner ourselves first before sending him off?”
“But Gom Gom is already eight years old—would anyone even want to adopt him?”
“But if we send him to the shelter, he’ll be euthanized in ten days.”
At Chae Rin’s words, Seul Hee’s eyes widened. Euthanasia. That’s right—stray dogs at the shelter only get a brief window to find an owner before they’re put down. Puppies under a year already struggle to find new homes, so Gom Gom would probably…
Her heart dropped.
He was still so healthy! At eight years old, he still had plenty of life ahead of him—was he really going to be euthanized? She remembered how that morning, when she came in and fed him, Gom Gom had happily licked her hand over and over in greeting.
Was Gom Gom really going to die?
That couldn’t happen. Without even thinking calmly, the words rushed out of her mouth.
“I—I’ll adopt him!”
All the staff turned to look at Seul Hee.
Honestly speaking, she wasn’t in any position to adopt a dog right now.
Her salary at the animal clinic was already low, and during her probation period, she was earning 200,000 won less. She’d never raised a pet before, and her mom had asthma, making it impossible to keep one at home.
But… but he’d die!
Gom Gom… he’d die! She just couldn’t bear that.
“If no owner shows up, I’ll adopt him.”
She forced a bright smile despite her trembling lips. Now that she’d said it out loud, it felt like the right thing to do. She’d figure the rest out somehow.
But unlike Seul Hee’s suddenly cheerful expression, the Deputy Director’s face remained grim.
“Seul Hee, are you really serious about adopting him?”
“Yes.”
When Seul Hee answered cautiously, the Director tilted his head.
“Seul Hee, you’ve never even raised a puppy before.”
The Director, being her maternal uncle, knew her situation well.
“Is this really a decision you can make so easily?”
“But what if he gets euthanized? What then?”
“Exactly, Seul Hee. Raising a dog isn’t easy—you just don’t realize that yet.”
“That’s right, Seul Hee,” the Director continued.
“Gom Gom is already eight years old. With proper care, he could easily live over ten more years. Are you really confident you can take care of him for that long?”
Ten years. Just thinking about it felt overwhelming. Ten years ago, she’d been in high school. She couldn’t even imagine what she’d be like ten years from now.
“It’s not something you can decide on a whim just because you feel bad for him. Tens of thousands of dogs get abandoned every year. Can you adopt them all just because they’re pitiful? We—this clinic, all of us—wish we could save every one of them, but it’s impossible, Seul Hee.”
“But Gom Gom is right here! I might not be able to save every stray, but I can save Gom Gom!”
She couldn’t back down now. If she did, Gom Gom would be put down. Even though she usually spoke in a soft, gentle voice, her tone now carried unexpected strength.
Trending
“You can’t even keep a puppy at home.”
Her mother suffered from both dog allergies and asthma, so bringing a pet home was out of the question. But she quickly thought it over. Between her severance pay from her last job and various savings accounts, she had about 15 million won. She could use that as a deposit to rent a place.
Actually… maybe this was a good thing. She’d wanted to live on her own but kept putting off the decision. Now that she had a job, she could afford the monthly rent. This was her chance to become independent.
“I… I can’t keep him at home right now, but I’ll move into a place where pets are allowed.”
It was a sudden decision, but she wasn’t taking it lightly. After several months working at the clinic, she’d learned at least a little about what it meant to live with an animal.
“I can take responsibility.”
“But Seul Hee…”
“Unless I adopt Gom Gom, what other option is there? Director, is it better for him to die, or for me to take him home and live happily together?”
“…”
“I said I’ll take care of him. I’ll be responsible until Gom Gom lives a long, happy life.”
She’d gone too far.
Silence settled quietly over the clinic.
Did I really just say that?
Seul Hee, who always spoke so softly, had just voiced her opinion with unwavering resolve—leaving the staff stunned as they stared at her. Had she ever been this assertive in her entire life?
Then, Eun Woo—who had remained completely silent throughout the entire conversation—finally spoke. His straight lips parted slowly.
“Let’s trust Seul Hee.”
“…”
“She’s this determined.”
Everyone’s eyes widened in surprise at Eun Woo’s unexpected words.
If anyone was expected to oppose Seul Hee’s adoption, it would’ve been Mr. Ok. Everyone at Dolmare Animal Hospital knew better than anyone how strict he was about pet adoptions. Yet here he was, willingly offering his trust.
“Of course, it’s true that Seul Hee is lacking in experience, and this was a sudden decision.”
But.
“I’ll support her.”
“You, Mr. Ok?”
“Yes.”
A faint smile touched the corners of Eun Woo’s lips. The staff exchanged glances, now somewhat convinced. Seul Hee knew this was her chance.
“Then yes, Mr. Ok, please teach me everything. Show me step by step how to raise him properly—even long, loooong after the clinic closes each day.”
She’d said it partly to humor his offer, but immediately worried she’d gone too far.
Would he misunderstand what I meant?
Like, did it sound like I wanted to spend extra time alone with him after work?
No, that’s not what I meant at all.
Given their subtle history, her comment might’ve come across as overly forward. But Seul Hee was desperate.
How would he take it? His sharp eyes swept over her. His straight lips twisted into a mischievous, teasing smirk.
“Then it’s settled.”
He tapped the table lightly, his voice ringing out firmly like a judge striking a gavel to announce a verdict.
“If Yoo Seul Hee is this set on adopting Gom Gom, then I’ll teach her—thoroughly, meticulously, without skipping a single detail. Around the clock, if necessary.”
His voice echoed in her ears like thunder.
“I’m actually looking forward to it. The thought of educating Seul Hee for looooooong hours after clinic ends each day…”
And so, Seul Hee walked straight into the tiger’s den.
The moment she arrived at work that morning, Seul Hee headed straight to the inpatient room.
Gom Gom, the pug she’d decided to adopt, wagged his tail excitedly at the sight of her. Just watching his round, curled tail wagging vigorously like ocean waves showed clearly how much he adored her. He was so cute she could die.
“Gom Gom, Mommy’s here! Did you sleep well through the night?”
As soon as Seul Hee took him out of his cage, he joyfully circled around her feet. The little black fluffball tumbled around like a rolling ball, then rubbed his head against her ankles. The soft sensation felt wonderful.
“Yes, yes—I missed you too, Mommy.”
While Seul Hee searched for a new place to live, Gom Gom stayed at the clinic. She wanted to bring him home as soon as possible, but couldn’t take him to her current house because of her asthmatic mother—so she was actively looking for a new apartment.
But whether due to rushing or limited budget, a suitable place just wouldn’t come through. Jin Young, a technician slightly older than Seul Hee, asked her,
“Have you found a place yet?”
Seul Hee sighed and managed a smile.
“It’s proving harder than I thought.”
“Landlords don’t like it when you have a dog, right?”

Seul Hee nodded.
She didn’t have a generous budget, and location mattered too—since she spent so much time at the clinic, she wanted somewhere close by if possible.
But nearby places were expensive. Affordable and close options didn’t allow pets. And the few that met both criteria wouldn’t be available for months.
She’d scoured not only the surrounding neighborhoods but even areas over thirty minutes away for a full week—and still found nothing suitable.
“Maybe I should look into Gwacheon.”
“But there aren’t many small units there, are there? I think there’s a shortage of housing for single occupants.”
“Oh, right.”
Seul Hee’s sighs grew heavier by the minute.
She had no idea what to do. Should she take out a loan, even if it meant stretching herself thin, just to rent a place? Worried, she stepped out of the break room after lunch, sighing deeply—when Eun Woo stopped her.
“Seul Hee.”
“Yes?”
“Can we talk for a moment? Just the two of us.”
Just the two of us? What could he want to discuss?
Eun Woo led her into the empty supply closet, where only the two of them stood in the cramped space.
If it was something he couldn’t say in front of others, it probably wasn’t work-related.
Standing slightly angled toward her, Eun Woo looked at Seul Hee. Watching his lips twitch as if debating whether to speak or not made her anxious.
“Is it really that hard to find a place?”
“Oh… yeah.”
“This is serious.”
“Yes, it really is. But it’ll work out—it’s fine.”
She answered with firm confidence, worried he might ask her to reconsider adopting Gom Gom. Even if she couldn’t find a place, she’d endure a two-hour commute—or even take out a loan—just to live with Gom Gom. There was no other option for her.
Eun Woo stared silently at Seul Hee, her hands clenched tightly, then finally spoke.
“If it’s this hard to find a place…”
He shrugged his shoulders and continued.
“Seul Hee, come live at my place.”
Male lead is a Divorced Husband
She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.
After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.
She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.
But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…
Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!
――
This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!
The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.
That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”
Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”
The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”
That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”
Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”
The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.
Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.
“She was originally a ‘she’!”
At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.
The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
