Seol Hee’s eyes widened more than usual.
The place Eun Woo brought her to was not an ordinary accommodation. It was a Jeju-style traditional house, slightly removed from Jeju City, with modest roofs.
Black basalt walls encircled a small garden lush with greenery, and an old-fashioned Jangdokdae (terracotta jars) caught her eye.
“It would have been more convenient at a hotel,” Eun Woo remarked.
Seol Hee shook her head with excitement.
“No, I like it here.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
The traditional house was far from outdated. It either had been remodeled or well-maintained, resembling a sophisticated designer home. Beyond the wall, one could see Jeju City and the distant blue sea.
The sea wasn’t visible at night, but the moon shone brightly, reflecting on the water’s surface.
“It’s not just okay, it’s amazing.”
“…”
“Is this, what, a Hanok guest house? Did you rent it especially?”
“Ah, um.”
Eun Woo tilted his head at Seol Hee’s question.
“It’s my house.”
“Your house?”
“Should I say my house? Anyway, it is.”
Seol Hee clutched her bag tighter.
What’s he saying? Dr. Ok’s house is an apartment near the hospital. So that means…
“Does your family live here? Dr. Ok’s family?”
The house was large and beautiful enough to be believable. Seol Hee’s astonishment made Eun Woo lift the corner of his mouth.
“Would you have liked that?”
“No, no. It’s just so sudden.”
Barely dating and now a family home? What family home, anyway. It’s not like they’re married. She had met his grandmother once, but that was strictly business.
In contrast to Seol Hee’s cluttered mind, the house inside was serenely quiet.
“I may be out of my mind, but I haven’t gone crazy enough to bring Seol Hee to a house where my family lives. No, nobody lives here. I occasionally hire someone for cleaning.”
“Then…”
“It’s just a house I personally own.”
“Another house?”
Already verified were two apartments in Seoul and now this splendid house in Jeju.
“Dr. Ok, you’re really rich, aren’t you?”
At Seol Hee’s comment, Eun Woo laughed silently.
“Not extremely rich.”
Quite rich, then.
Seol Hee’s curious eyes made Eun Woo open his eyes thinly and explain.
“It’s my grandmother’s house. I inherited it due to certain circumstances.”
“I see.”
What kind of person was Eun Woo’s grandmother? The house in Seoul was already impressive, but now a house in Jeju, too. Eun Woo rarely talked about himself.
She had spent over 10 hours a day with him at the hospital, and occasionally after work.
She thought she knew him well enough, but there was still much she didn’t know. Even now, suddenly being brought here.
Quietly, Seol Hee looked at his face.
The moonlight of Jeju settled on his neat face. The long shadow cast by his sharp nose. And his calm, settled eyes.
She hadn’t known he was from Jeju. Ah, but he had said he grew up in Seoul, so perhaps only his grandmother lived in Jeju.
Seol Hee wished Eun Woo would speak more instead of reducing his words.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Seol Hee chuckled at Eun Woo’s question.
“I was just thinking, Dr. Ok is so unpredictable, bringing me to such a place…”
“I did think it over.”
“…”
“Whether to choose a regular hotel or this place where I always stay when I’m in Jeju. I felt like Seol Hee would like it here. Just had a hunch.”
“I do. I like this house.”
Seol Hee smiled.
Then Eun Woo reached out and smoothed her hair, tousled by the Jeju wind.
It was just hair, a mass of protein without any nerve, but as he brushed it away, Seol Hee’s skin, which had been pale and transparent just moments before, turned a bright red.
His large hand was right in front of her.
“I’m glad you like it.”
“…”
“I was worried I had dragged you here against your will.”
Well, it was sort of against her will.
She came because it was good for her studies, and Eun Woo, thinking of Seol Hee’s growth, had proposed it.
Eun Woo’s words almost made her grumble, but his gaze was too intense. Her lips dried up with tension.
“……I…… came here to study. Thank you for bringing me.”
“That’s good then.”
His fingertips slowly released her hair.
“You must be tired. Let’s go inside. That room is for you to use.”
“My room?”
“……Yes.”
At Seol Hee’s question, he smiled strangely.
“Why? Did you expect us to share a room?”
“No.”
“Or did you want to share a room?”
“Absolutely not!”
Seol Hee jumped back, startled.
Eun Woo then lifted his lips into a dizzying smile. She must not be fooled again today. He’s just teasing.
“Ah, I wanted to.”
“…….?”
“I thought if we did, I wouldn’t sleep at all until morning.”
Eun Woo’s natural statement made Seol Hee crack a smile.
“I’m not gentlemanly enough to keep my hands off a woman I like.”
“What……?”
Confused about how to respond, Seol Hee stepped back, but he reached out and tapped her head.
“So you better run away before I pounce.”
Then he turned and entered the house.
After Eun Woo encouraged her to shower first, Seol Hee removed her makeup, organized her luggage, and checked her notes and clothes for the next day.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
