49 Times Left, Master! (Completed Main Story) - Side Story 8
“I have already personally staged your death for you. Even prepared a tomb. Since you risked your life to bring me the antidote, I was more than willing to repay you, Yo I Guk Sa. Yet now you ask me to change my word once again.”
Should I say I’m honored or ashamed? I stood there helplessly, utterly at a loss.
“The Emperor’s words must carry weight. And yet, Yo I Guk Sa, you are asking me to speak with two tongues from one mouth.”
The Emperor was right. I had already received great aid from him. To now ask him to retract it was tantamount to requesting his help yet again.
How long had I been fretting like this? The Emperor rose from his seat, approached me, and said, “Here’s what we’ll do.”
“I cannot restore your former status. But I can grant you a new identity. What say you?”
“A new… identity?”
“Even if I restored your status, could you truly live properly bearing the Yo surname? I shall bestow upon you a different family name. With this new identity, you may take the civil service examination again and serve as an official.”
“What? Take the examination again?”
“You passed it just a few years ago—surely you can sit for it once more?”
“Well, yes, but…”
Then I would no longer be married to my disciple. Judging by his suggestion that I take the examination, the new identity the Emperor intended to grant me was clearly that of a man.
I couldn’t answer right away and instead glanced toward my disciple. He was staring at the Emperor with an expression colder than ice.
The moment I saw that look, I understood the Emperor’s true intent. This wasn’t merely about him refusing to rescind his imperial decree.
Yo Yohwa, the disgraced consort of the Thirteenth Prince, now Crown Prince, offered him no benefit whatsoever. Yet if he were to cast out a perfectly living consort and take another principal wife, though possible, it would invite public censure.

Male lead is a Divorced Husband
She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.
After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.
She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.
But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…
Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!
The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.
That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”
Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”
The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”
That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”
Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”
The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.
Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.
“She was originally a ‘she’!”
At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.
The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”

That’s funny how the prince’s accusations of her being petty and so on turned out to be not out of revenge, but in reality quite valid and objective evaluation of her character 😏
She deserves every bit of this little humiliation. He even goes easy on her here
