11 Virtues A Hero's Civilian Friend Must Uphold (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 23
To put it bluntly, the blind date was an utter disaster.
It wasn’t that her date was unappealing—he was decently good-looking, had a nice voice, and was tall.
She’d even started warming up to him just enough for the mood to soften, but unfortunately, he was overly fond of physical contact and came on too strong right from the start.
When he reached out his arm, feigning surprise about how small her hand was and suggesting they compare sizes, she dodged it with a pale, horrified face.
After that, her heart kept pounding unpleasantly, her palms soaked with cold sweat, and her mind so muddled that she barely managed to finish her meal before fleeing without even suggesting an after-meal drink.
She hoped the matchmaker wouldn’t get mad at her. Believing that, at the very least, she’d maintained civility until the end and thus wouldn’t cause major trouble was all she could do.
Feeling queasy, she bought a bottle of water at the convenience store and walked home through the night streets, silently regretting her decision.
She should’ve just taken on another part-time job instead of wasting time like this.
She’d originally been scheduled to work as a teaching assistant at the academy, but skipping it just to try out a blind date now felt deeply regrettable.
It was a well-paying hourly job, after all.
Still sighing inwardly with endless regret and gulping down the water, Na Eun suddenly realized she’d wandered into the darkest, most deserted alley on her way home.
Would he be around today?
Remembering how he always waited for her on late nights when she was off work, Na Eun didn’t hesitate. She scanned her surroundings and waved the arm holding the water bottle.
“If you’re here, walk with me. Are you nearby?”
To any onlooker, she’d probably seem crazy—talking repeatedly to empty air—but soon enough, a small sigh escaped, and a dark figure emerged.

She came to see him, bringing breakfast.
As she put down the breakfast and was about to leave, his hand slipped while holding the spoon. “Clank!”
She turned around upon hearing the noise.
He looked up at her, his eyebrows drooping: “My hand… has no strength.”
“Shall I… feed you?” she asked tentatively.
He opened his mouth cheerfully: “Ah—”
Thinking she was drowning, he jumped in without hesitation to save her, but nearly drowned himself. In the end, it was she who swam over to rescue him, giving him air underwater.
After emerging from the water, his ear tips turned red. He lightly brushed his cheek, tucking his sideburns behind his ear, revealing delicate, pink-tinged ear tips. He lowered his gaze, too embarrassed to look at her.
